The series with the Rays had just about everything, including good starting pitching, clutch hitting, a benches-clearing tiff, a Boone ejection and, best of all, enough “W’s” to put the Yankees safely in front of the Rays by eight games by the time it was all over (Boston is ten back.) There’s always tension and emotion when the two clubs play these days, and I really enjoy it.
I loved the way this team never seemed to give up, and in yesterday’s double-header, particularly in the nightcap, I loved the station-to-station hitting. I love homers too, of course, but moving players around the diamond was something the Yankees weren’t so good at in previous years.
German has really distinguished himself as a pitcher we can count on, and Urshela is just plain on a tear. Do we still need that starter before the deadline? Absolutely, if we’re going to step up and win this thing. The clock is ticking, Cashman. Keep working those phones.
Hey Jane. Sorry I haven’t been around work has been hectic. How about that game last night? It was a thrilling ride that I missed about an hour or so of due to sleeping during some of it when we were losing! Sigh I find myself not being able to stay up as I could before now that I’m older. Hicks was the hero of course with his go ahead homerun in the 9th and of course his magnificent catch! We wouldn’t have won without him. Sanchez is on the IL now with a groin injury. I’m assuming that was the main reason why he’s been so bad for the past few weeks. Needless to say, a healthy Gary is better than having Romine playing full time. As always, we need pitching! It can’t be stressed enough. A starter and reliever at the bare minimum although I’d like us to try to get at least two starters to eat innings and the reliever should be a great one that may need to replace Chapman after this year if he ends up opting out from his contract.
Hey Leo. I was so elated when I woke up in the morning and saw the Yankees pulled off the win! When I went to sleep, we were losing and the Twins were on their way to beating us up for the second night. But thanks to Hicks and Didi (5 for 5!), we kept our distance from the Red Sox, who also won. Sorry about Sanchez. Sigh. When he’s healthy and hot, his bat is a thing of beauty. Otherwise, he doesn’t contribute much. And yes, pitching help, Cashman, and soon!
