Sweep!

August 9, 2018

A four-game sweep is especially sweet, but honestly the White Sox aren’t a very good team and if the Yankees hadn’t swept them I would have been really pissed off. (Why, oh why, couldn’t we have swept the Red Sox. Sob.)

Lance Lynn was a nice surprise, taking Sonny Gray’s spot in the rotation, and Gray did a nice job in relief filling in for Lynn.

Severino, while not dominant, pitched much better in his start last night. None of the pitchers has gone particularly deep into games, but that’s what bullpens are for. Which brings me to Chapman. I hope he enjoyed his night off last night, because we’ll need him down the stretch. He looked wretched the other night.

Good for Stanton on his first grand slam as a Yankee. And Andujar, despite his fielding woes, has hit well.

Texas is another team the Yanks should beat. We’ll see……

Hey good morning, Jane. We couldn’t even enjoy winning 6 out of 7 from Chicago and Texas before seemingly even more wheels fell off. Severino was bad again in the make up game and now it’s time to be worried. We won’t go far in the playoffs without our ace pitching like an ace. I’m hoping it’s just a workload issue and some rest could help him. This would be a lot easier to do if Gray wasn’t terrible this season. Cessa has had enough chances. He shouldn’t start anymore. And now Judge is out even longer after receiving his cortisone shot so without him and Sanchez, the lineup is still going to be short for awhile. At least Andujar has been playing so well and making some Rookie of the Year buzz. Speaking of RotY, Torres has been struggling and I’m hoping it’s not due to nagging injuries. Stanton has played admirably and carrying the team as best as he could while playing through the tight hamstring. We just need to stay healthy!

Good morning, Leo. Forgive the lack of posts but I’ve been under the weather as well as not particularly motivated to write about the Yanks. The posts would all sound the same: inconsistent pitching, inconsistent offense, etc. I don’t know what’s happened to Severino. He fell off the table. Dead arm? Mechanical? Injury? Tanaka has always been a liability regarding the home run ball. Gray is awful. Lane and Happ have been pleasant surprises. Cessa? Forget it. As for Judge, I never bought that “he’ll swing a bat in three weeks” line. Not with a fracture. Very disappointing. Yes, Andujar and Stanton have done ok. And Sanchez will be back. They just need to win games, as Jeter used to say!

You’re forgiven, Jane. There’s nothing inspiring right now with the Yanks. I hope you feel better with whatever’s got you feeling under the weather. It’s painful to admit that the Red Sox are just the better team this year. Why them and not any other team whyy lol. We’ll just have to settle for the WC and forget the division unless they go on a huge collapse (unlikely) while we go on a major winning streak at the same time (just as unlikely due to our regulars not being healthy). I just want us to get fully healthy while also hoping for Boston to get knocked out come playoff time. Anything can happen in the playoffs and the best teams have been knocked out before.

At this point, Leo, I hope we get a Wild Card spot!
