Words Are Not Necessary

March 29, 2018

Ok, a few words.

Wow.

Stanton.

He delivered everything we could have hoped for.

So did Severino.

So did everyone.

I love the Yankees.

They won Game 1 against the Blue Jays.

It was a fabulous Opening Day victory.

Do I sound euphoric?

I am.

Enough said!

Hey Jane how are you? Hope all has been well with you. I’m back for what should be yet another fun season of Yankees baseball. And yeah, there isn’t much else to say when you can just let the Stanton’s powerful 115+ mph exit velocity balls do the talking. Along with Judge and Sanchez (preferably all 3 batting back to back in the 2-4 spots as they are far and beyond the best 3 hitters on the team), I’m sure we will strike fear against opposing teams. Sevy was dominant as well and didn’t even need to use his changeup that much! The bullpen, save for Betances’ hiccup, also did its job and looked dominant. It’s only 1 game but previous OD losses were getting annoying so I’m happy we got a win to start the season off.

You summed it up well, Leo. Good to have you back this season. I did worry when Betances came in and looked a little shaky at first; I wondered if there was carryover from last year. But I’m pledging to think positively – at least for now! Your lineup dream trio would be that much better if Bird were sandwiched in, but we still have Didi and he’s our secret weapon.

I’m not sure what to make of Bird. He’s been injured every single year and never played for a full season but he’s proven to be a valuable first baseman when he’s healthy. It’s giving me Nick Johnson vibes. I’m thinking we shouldn’t count on him until he can prove he can be healthy long term. The depth of Austin and Walker is fine for now but sooner or later, a decision has to be made if we will move on from him or if he will be an addition to the current core.

Exactly right, Leo. (See my previous post about Bird.) I wonder why his body – especially his foot – keeps breaking down. Such a shame because he’s a really good ballplayer. But we’ll have to see how he holds up when he returns.

It was so nice to enjoy Opening Day! The Blue Jays aren’t quite the fearsome team of the past few seasons, but a solid win felt awfully good. I’m flying to NYC today for the Home Opener on Monday. I hope it goes much like this one did.

Glad you’ll be there on Monday, Terry. And you’re right about the Blue Jays, although I don’t want to jinx tonight’s game! Where did Bautista end up? I remember he was a free agent.
