Meh in Pittsburgh Except This

April 24, 2017

I could watch Aaron Judge hit tape measure homers all day long. Talk about bombs. The flip side of Saturday’s bomb against the Pirates that even elicited a tweet from Dave Winfield was yesterday’s strikeouts and the team’s overall offensive futility against Ivan Nova of all people.

Part of me was glad to see Nova pitch well and I’m sure he was really up for facing the Yankees. The other part would have preferred a win, of course. When we only manage to scratch out a run, it’s disheartening.

Back to the positives, this team has shown a lot of guts the way they come back from being several runs down. They don’t give up, and I love that.

This week should tell us even more about what they’re made of. We’re facing the Red Sox at Fenway, the team that’s supposed to win the division, maybe win it all, so let’s see how we measure up. If we’re lucky, Greg Bird will finally fly.

I was really hoping for a win last night. I need to not take every loss so personally. I agree with you, this week’s series against the Red Sox (BOOOOOOOO!!!!) will be a real test. As long as we don’t get swept I won’t fall into despair.

To answer your question about the YMCA, yes they still do that! Cotton Eye Joe is gone though (and good riddance). It was a little too cold to pay closer attention to the between inning entertainment, but I am going back next week so I will report on anything interesting!

Good riddance is right to Cotton Eye Joe, Darren. I always associate it with Roger Clemens. And I guess people (tourists) aren’t as sick of WMCA as I am. Don’t despair even if we get swept in Boston. I’ll probably rant about it if we do, but it will tell us (and more importantly Cashman and Girardi) where we stack up against the division contender.

Despite Aroldis Chapman’s best efforts we will not be swept in Boston:). Happy Birthday Aaron Judge indeed! I know we are not supposed to expect anything tonight against Chris Sales but this is a different Yankee team and I hope they surprise us by hitting him hard. If Tanaka can show some of his former brilliance, so much the better.

Chapman scared me last night! He was really shaky and I was sure the game would end in tragedy. But whew. Judge is my total hero right now. And Severino was great. As for Chris Sale, I’m not optimistic. He’s very tough even for the seemingly unflappable Baby Bombers.
