Welcome Back, Nova!

It seemed fitting to bring back the pic of the nova, bagels and cream cheese with the return today of Ivan Nova after his TJ surgery and rehab. What a shot in the arm for the Yankees, speaking of arms. He pitched great, as opposed to Tanaka and CC, who were awful against the Phillies, and if he can keep it up, the rotation will have a terrific “new” starter.

I really don’t know what to write about CC at this point except that he keeps saying after losses that his stuff was good, that he felt good, that he’s learning how to pitch without the big velocity, that he’s…..Well, it goes on and on. What he doesn’t say is that he’s not fooling hitters, and it’s hurting the team. Does he deserve to stay in the rotation? Of course. He’s earned his place. But someone needs to work with him on his mechanics. Someone needs to help him make adjustments. Someone needs to show him how to be a different pitcher. Maybe Andy Pettitte should sign up for a stint as CC’s personal pitching mentor.

On to the surprising Houston Astros. Who would ever have picked them for a first place team? Not me. I hope we can rise to the occasion.

Funny Jane. My sister has been saying for two months that the Yankees need to hire Andy Pettitte to work with CC for about a month. Couldn’t hurt.

It was great watching Nova yesterday (on TV). You could tell how thrilled he was to be back. It was nice to see.

Boy, did we need that game! After giving up ten or more runs for three games in a row for the second time in 100 years of Yankee history I’m sure the players and fans alike were a bit shell-shocked. To come back with a Janer was a huge help. I’ve always like Nova and yesterday he justified my confidence in him. I hope it continues and he becomes the stellar pitcher I think he can be.

This team is very streaky with it’s tendency to win a few, then lose a few. I guess as long as they keep the win/loss ratio at 2-to-1 it will all be good, no matter how those wins are strung together. It was nice to have them at home for a while. Now on to Houston.

    p.s. I hate inter-league play. I just do.

Nova was so excited, Terry. It was definitely nice to see. I just hope he can give us some consistency because we dearly need it. And wouldn’t Pettitte be the perfect coach for CC? As far as I know, all he does these days is appear at nostalgia events, so why not get on the Yankees payroll?

I remember Nova was a favorite of yours, Audrey. It would be great if he’s finally matured into a top-notch starter – and stays healthy. (I hate interleague play too.) The streaky nature of this team is saved by the mediocrity of the rest of the division. But all rights, the Yankees shouldn’t be at the top or near it, but it seems the other teams are just as streaky so they really have a chance to hang in until the very end.
