Peggy, our good friend of the blog, sent me this pic of her new granddaughter Kayleigh in her best Derek Jeter fan mode. If that isn’t enough to brighten anyone’s day I don’t know what is. Just adorable.
Here she is pretty in pink too.
To catch up on news in Yankeeville, the Yankees re-signed Chris Young (hopefully his productivity at the end of last season after being acquired from the Mets wasn’t a fluke), made a qualifying one-year offer to Dave Robertson (he turned it down and now they’re negotiating a multi-year deal – or not), are trying to sign Chase Headley (supposedly he wants to play third everyday, not platoon, so we’ll see) and are talking to agents about various players. Oh, and Brian Cashman, who is our GM yet again (I’m not thrilled), is wearing a mustache and a goatee at the winter meetings.
And then there’s been all the gross A-Rod news – his spilling the sad truth of his PED/Biogenesis involvement to the Feds, his feud with good old cousin Yuri and his wife and other sordid details. I keep trying to picture this guy showing up at spring training (in between having to testify at Yuri’s trial) and wondering whether he’ll have a Mea Culpa press conference, do another TV interview with Peter Gammons or maybe the more local Michael Kay or Jack Curry, or just say “No comment. I’m here to play baseball.” I bet Jeter is so happy he won’t be around for any of that.
I really enjoyed the World Series this year and look forward to the baseball season, despite my skepticism about the Yankees’ roster. There are a lot of holes to fill and Hal may or may not, should or should not, open his wallet this time around.
Till next time.
A-Rod…what a waste. Michael Kaye said on the radio yesterday that the team talked to A-Rod about playing first base at times and he just said, “We’ll talk about it”. Huh! Yeah, right. I have no reason whatsoever to want him on our team but we’re stuck with him. The baby pix are absolutely adorable – worth waiting for. We need more Yankees fans. GO YANKEES!!!
It sounds like Cashman isn’t counting on A-Rod to play third, Diane, so who knows what will happen. Maybe they hope he’ll be too decrepit to play so he’ll retire and they can get the insurance money. Or not. It’s such a question mark right now.
Hi Jane & Fellow Baseball fans,
Thanks for putting Kayleigh’s pics on the blog Jane. Not only does she wear Yankee gear proudly but the funniest thing is the fact that she must have about 20 different types of pacifiers that she received as gifts and such but the only one she likes is the Yankee pacifier she received. I had to go purchase 4 more so that she would have her own little supply. All I can say is ..that’s my girl! A Yankee fan right from birth… :). My daughter is hoping to take her to Opening Day. She is our pride and joy …love her so much.
As for My Yanks…not too much happening. Alex is back and so is the controversy. It didn’t take long after a very quiet absence for the most part. It’s going to be a VERY interesting season with Alex back in play. I’m hoping they resign DRob..love him not just as a player but as a person too. I didn’t expect him to take the arbitration. Why should he with other offers out there? It’s his chance for a payday ..well deserved. Frankie was traded to the Pirates which is ok with me because I really like John Ryan Murphy as our backup. He did quite well when he got the chance to play and besides, he caught Mo’s last pitch! I guess we will wait to see how things shape up. I just hope they get a decent shortstop and stop with the Drew experiment. Also hoping the starting pitchers can stay healthy this season…if so…they will be a formidable staff. No matter what …I’m still looking forward to the new season because I truly miss My Yanks!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season with lots of love, peace and happiness.
Go Yankees 2015!!
The baby pictures are awesome and it cheered my heart to see you post Jane.
Went to Yankee Stadium Sunday and picked out new seats for next season. I’m ready to roll!
I can’t help but feel sorry for Alex. What a waste. And feel sorry for us having to listen to it.
But we’re Yankees fans. We will be just fine.
Funny about the pacifier, Peggy! I have a hunch the Yankees will let DRob go – a Papelbon type deal won’t appeal to them if their priority is a starter – but I’ve been surprised before. The shortstop hole is another big one to fill. Same to you and yours for the holidays!
I’m usually very sympathetic when someone makes a mistake, Terry, particular if the “someone” is wearing pinstripes. But in A-Rod’s case, I have only apathy. He brought all this on himself, and he dragged others down in the process of building himself up. I’m still angry that he brought a lawsuit against the players association when Michael Weiner was dying of brain cancer. But onward. Spring will come soon and you’ll have your new seats for the season!
Hi Jane-
Lifelong Yankee fan here, but I’m new to all of the blogs. (Not sure what took me so long???) What sweet pictures of little Kayleigh- reminds me of my son and all of the cute little Yankee/Derek Jeter clothing items he had as a child. He’s now 21, but sadly, not a baseball fan.
I, too am looking forward to next season, but dreading the return of A-rod (or my unprintable nickname for him!) I’ve NEVER been a fan, so this past season not having to see or hear about him for the most part was a huge relief.
Jealous of the fan (Terry) with the season tickets! Living in Central New York we get to only a few games a year, but this year we’re contemplating going back down to Spring Training. Haven’t been down there since 2003!
Go Yankees!
Hi Laurie! Welcome. Always great to have another she-fan join the conversation. Did you find the blog after reading the book? It’s weird about A-Rod. I’m dreading his return in the sense of all the distractions and drama that are likely to accompany it, not to mention the uncertainty surrounding whether or not he can actually play third base or DH effectively. But I’m also hoping that by some miracle he can still hit even without the PEDs. We need help with the offense. I wish I could go to spring training – it’s been awhile for me too – but I’ll be moving into a new house so that’s out.
Thanks for the welcome, Jane! I just recently googled “Yankee blogs” and that’s how I found you. I’m intrigued by what I’ve read about the book though, and look forward to getting it. I’m sure I can relate very easily to some of the emotions you’ve experienced.
Hoping for news on some positive moves for next season, and having somewhere I can go to cheer….or vent…. as the case may be.
Google is a wonderful thing, Laurie. :) Let me know if you do get the book and whether you related to my adventures. Yes, this is the place to vent, cheer, whatever. I don’t post as much as I used to during the season, but I’m sure there will be enough to keep the conversation lively.
