They almost came back in the ninth, and it would have been a kick in the teeth if they’d rallied, especially since Kuroda was so damn good yet again. (Cy Young Award? I’d vote for him in a heartbeat.) But Robertson, after doing his usual scary reliever thing with the crowd cheering “We want Mo!,” clipped the Angels’ wings. Whew.
Very nice to see Granderson get his power swing back with that homer. And Gardner continues to be an RBI star this season. I’ve been trying not to mention A-Rod, because his presence bothers me, but he seems to figure into every game since he came back, for better or worse, and his caught stealing blunder was weird even for him. Talk about a deer in the headlights.
The Angels aren’t the Angels of old, those tormentors who beat us time after time in painful ways. And I wish this Yankees team had the offense of old instead of having to eek out every little run. But that’s the situation and a win is a win, and I’ll take it gladly.
A-Rod hit into a double-play twice last night; right? Not good. I don’t think I’m going to fault him on getting caught on the attempted steal…I think he was told to do that. It was scarey at the end, but Houdini does it again. Even though the bats haven’t fully awakened yet, I think the guys are finally starting to feel like they are going to win and that might cause a few wins that would otherwise be losses. GO YANKEES!!!
This was a game I was glad I saw most of after it was over because the 9th would have freaked me out live
Robertson looks like such a mild-mannered, conservative, quiet kind of guy but he must really get off on the adrenalin rush of getting himself in and out of dangerous situations! According to a Yankees tweet I got this morning that was the 25th time in a row D-Rob has gotten out of a bases-loaded situation without allowing a run to score. Hope he’s having fun with that but he’s taken a few years off my life. I was most worried for Kuroda, who, as usual, deserved a win. So glad he got it.
I agree with everybody about Robertson. As Audrey said, he’s taking years off my life!
It was also cool that Paul O’Neill was talking about his wife and daughter being at The Back Street Boys concert at Jones beach because my daughter and one of her friends was there. Sounds like it was a great show. And my boss met Paul O’Neill at a Mellencamp concert at Jones Beach in the past so I guess Teh O’Neill family likes that venue.
