I was thrilled that my wish from last night’s post – that the Yankees would win again but by scoring lots of runs – came true. (Thanks to Ichiro, Swisher, Jeter, Nix and the whole bunch of them.) But when the Blue Jays made a game of it by scoring 7 runs to our 10, it got downright ridiculous. Girardi actually had Soriano warming, after the poor guy saved both games yesterday, but that’s the problem with having a starter who couldn’t go deep and middle relievers who couldn’t relieve. (Correction: apparently, Soriano was only “playing catch” and there was not a plan to use him.)
Let me elaborate.
Hughes got the win but scared me the way he often does. His third inning was weird and his pitch count got out of hand. Not what you want to see as the postseason approaches.
Lowe wasn’t good, but I would have left him in longer. Cory Wade isn’t major league material anymore, period. And Joba is just plain inconsistent.
Fortunately, Robertson put the Jays out of their misery and ended what could have been a nightmare of an evening. Clap clap clap for him.
Sorry I’ve been away for a few days, Jane. Had to deal with some things.
Anyway, we’re still in first — barely. But for the love of Zeus can someone beat the $$#$#%$% Orioles? 18 inning win, then another extra inning win.
Well, Ichiro has been awesome, jeter is being jeter and at least our pitchers put a couple of decent games toggether before today. Keep winning, guys…
Yeah, giving up that many runs, even though they won, was not pleasing. But a W is a W and that’s what really matters. It’s weird, but Hughes has the most wins of all the NYY starters…I guess he gets the run support that others don’t get. Anyway, kind of nervous with this next series because they’ve been doing pretty well but they have to play our NYY’s at home and hopefully that means more W’s for our boys. They have no off days now for the rest of the regular season which is probably not good, but they have to do what they have to do. GO YANKEES!!!
The A’s will be tough. We had a lot of trouble with them out west and I remember hoping we wouldn’t face them in the playoffs. But if the Yankees play well, the opponent won’t matter.
