I'm So Spoiled Right Now (With Update)

June 18, 2012

It’s pathetic the way the Yankees have spoiled me with this crazy winning streak of theirs. I was watching tonight’s game as if there was no contest. Even after the Braves scored first off CC and even though our offense couldn’t do a thing with this guy Minor and even though it looked like we might lose at long last, I said out loud, “Somebody will find a way and we’ll win this one too.”

And, of course, that’s what happened.

Whatever problems CC’s been having vanished after the first inning. He said he and Rothschild made an adjustment and it showed with a complete game and 10 Ks. No need to worry about his pitch count and no need to use our bullpen. Brilliance.

And the offense had a little of everything – hits with RISP and the homers we’ve come to expect. More brilliance.

Could we petition Bud Selig to keep the Yanks playing teams in the NL East?

Update: Here’s a photo of the Grandy Man that Ruth took at one of the games against the Nats. He’s adorable, isn’t he?

I have to admit this has been a wonderful ride. I hope it keeps going for a while…

The pessimist in me is worried that we might peak too soon, but the rational part of me just told the pessimist to shut up.

    On to the next one…

That was amazing — no matter how weak a start C.C. has he always seems to do what he has to do. And the bats woke up a little which we needed. I love watching Jeter’s parents react when he gets a hit – his father was so excited it looked like it was Jeter’s first hit in the majors.

The Mets did us a favor by beating The Orioles — Dickey’s second one-hitter in a row. Both he and C.C. went the full 9 innings and it looks like they’ll be facing each other on Sunday, unless one of the managers makes a change. In protecting the pitching staff, especially the relief pitchers, Girardi is such a better manager than Torre ever was. GO YANKEES!!!

I was thinking the same thing last night – how spoiled I am being a Yankees fan. I just EXPECT them to win. I know we can’t win every game, but I will take whatever wins they provide and just enjoy this fabulous streak. Some of these games have been battles and it’s not like they’ve been playing teams with losing records. Jeet didn’t need a grand slam (althought that would’ve been awesome), I just kept saying “Just get a hit. That’s all you need.” I’m so glad he listened. =)

Our pitching may be a little shaky in early innings, but as long as they continue to regain control and the offense can show up to help out, I like our chances of continuing to win. Let’s Go Yankees!!

P.S. I’d love to continue playing the NL East. Just not when the Mets have Dickey on the mound. That dude is on fire!

Jane, does a 10-game winning streak count as a ‘Janer?’

I said the same thing to my husband last night, Sean – that I want the Yankees to peak at the right time (i.e. September and October). They need this streak to get to and stay at the top of the division, but I sure don’t want to see them go cold during the stretch and playoffs.

Last night took away my worries about CC, Diane. He’d been the weakest link in the rotation, oddly enough, but last night he showed why he’s still the ace. Dickey’s been unbelievable and the Yankees don’t like knuckleballers (who does?), so that could be a challenging game. I agree about Girardi/Torre and the bullpen. Poor Scott Proctor and Tanyon Sturtze!

It’s such a great feeling to be in the middle of this streak, DJ, and have the confidence that the team will find a way to win. It all comes down to the starting pitching. As long as everybody in the rotation continues to pitch like this, we’ll be in good shape because the hitters feel the same confidence we do.

HAHA, Ruth. That would qualify as a “maximum Janer!”

Oh, and what do we all think about the outcome of the Clemens trial? I was expecting the next headline to be ‘Clemens declares bankruptcy after spending gazillion dollars in legal fees….’ Wonder how much he’s spent?!

    “Big wheel keeps on turnin’…
    Proud Mary keeps on burnin’…
    Rollin’…rollin’…rollin’ on a river…”
    — Ike & Tina, ’71 (or CCR, ’69…or whoever/whenever, ever since)…

What can you say? What a streak! Yes, you do hope that they aren’t peaking too soon, just flexing their muscular talents to take over the division lead, and then just outpace everyone by winning series. In the meantime, thanks to the Yanks for keeping that JV ballclub in D.C. in first place in their overrated division…

It’s true that the way things are going, a 2-0 deficit was No Big Deal last night. As soon as they got a threat going, then took the lead, it really seemed to be No Worries. Now, maybe at this point, the Braves are a bit psyched out (esp. after that 4-0 lead turned to smoke down in “Ted” Field). The Mets are and will be more of an acid test, esp. the second time around. Dickey is “ri-Dickey-lous” right now.

Watching the Yanks from the opposing dugout perspective this weekend was refreshing & revealing. My wife constantly complains how LOADED they are…and I never really appreciated it before, because I’d be forever finding fault with somebody who was slumping, or hurting, or whatever. But it really, truly is an incredibly tough lineup to pitch to — the Yanks didn’t even start all their best starters ONCE against the Nats, and it hardly mattered. Other than the pitcher, where are the holes? At least right now…none. And maybe it was sitting next to Ruth & Tom for an inning, but usually I have Rabbit Ears when it comes to seeing and hearing snarky wisecrax from opposing fans. But I barely heard anything from the Yanks’ fans. They were…how do I say this…POLITE? Well, compared to Philly fans (bottom of the barrel) and some other idiots (like Pirates fans — why they think they’re anything baffles me — but they do). Or maybe the Yanks fans considered the Nats beneath their concern, or they took pity. Whatever. It’s all good.

Now let’s just have an injury-free and successful summer, one and all. Beat them Braves!

I didn’t even follow the trial, Ruth, except when Andy was testifying. I really hope this is the end of the government’s attempts to prosecute athletes. They should concentrate on the real criminals. Thanks for the Grandy pic, btw.

I didn’t follow the trial, either, Jane, so I was surprised when verdict came down yesterday. I agree with you – it pisses me off that we spend probably huge amounts of OUR money to monitor the behavior of go-zillionaire baseball players. Maybe the poor results from this trial – from a Government perspective – will keep them from pursuing other farces. And our lineup better be LOADED, Dave, because the Yankees were 2 FOR 30 with runners in scoring position for the last two wins at Nats Park. A win’s a win, so I won’t bitch too much, but how did we win going 2 for 30? The Nats really blew opportunities to take a couple from the Yanks. Oh, and one last bit and I’ll shut up: I wanted to let everyone know that one of Bryce Harper’s walk-up songs is Justin Beiber’s ‘Boyfriend.’ Huh???? Well, I guess they are about the same age. Scary….

Oh, Jane, that picture of Granderson is adorable. I just love him. I especially love that he is actually an articulate speaker. Every other phrase isn’t “you know”, like most athletes. I keep seeing snipits of the kids book he wrote on YES…he is a real role model.
