Seriously?

March 16, 2012

Via LoHud:

Derek Jeter was pulled from today’s lineup because of a tender left calf. Joe Girardi said hes decided Jeter wont play again until Tuesday, but he labeled this as more precautionary than anything. He hasn’t forgotten what happened to Jeter’s other calf last year.

Also, Russell Martin was scratched because of soreness in his left groin. Its unclear whether it happened on yesterdays play at first base.

Nick Swisher has told Girardi that his tight groin feels better, but Girardi decided not to play him today either.

Add Pena, Nunez and Garcia to the injured list, plus assorted minor leaguers in camp, and you’ve got a hospital full of patients.

Is this just a case of the usual spring training aches and pains? I can’t blame it on “aging players” because the younger guys are having pulls and strains and freakish stuff as often as the older ones.

It’s just a little unsettling, and I find myself bracing for the next casualty.

i still love spring training. i am not worrying about lack of hitting, injuries, losses, i didn’t even freak that we lost 1-0 to the sox. if that had been the regular season i would have lost my mind. i wish i could carry this attitude into the regular season. i think everyone will be healthy when it’s time. i think it is all going to be ok. i think baseball is great and there is nothing worry about. no i am not on drugs, it’s my march anticipatory joy.

It’s concerning but not that much at this time of the year. And so mitigated by the amazing news that Andy Pettitte is coming back! Assuming he can get into shape – which I have faith that he will. This is great!

I wish I could say I was paying a lot of attention to ST games but I just can’t care for games that don’t mean anything. Although I am reading up on the news and reports. These injuries are getting ridiculous. I also hope that Pineda’s loss of velocity is just an error on the guns or that Pineda needs to just rebuild arm strength to regain the velocity. Then he can be the young cost controlled #2 starter everyone envisioned. Nice to hear his change up is progressing. What does everyone else think about this?

You’re not on drugs, Barbara? HAHAHA. Good to know.

Great news about Andy, Ladyjane. I love that he was the #1 trending topic on Twitter earlier.

I’m not worried about Pineda’s velocity, Leo. I’d rather he build up arm strength slowly than blow out his arm early trying to throw 95 mph.
