Mark Teixeira to retire
Mark Teixeira will retire at the end of the 2016 season, according to an ESPN report.
The Yankees scheduled an afternoon press conference Friday for their longtime first baseman to make the announcement.
Teixeira, 36, has accumulated 404 home runs and 1,281 RBIs in his career, though he is hitting just .198 this season with a lowly .287 on-base percentage and .340 slugging percentage.
Teixeira was set to become a free agent after this season, following the conclusion of an eight-year, $180 million contract he signed with the Yankees prior to the 2009 season.
