From the “It Is High” blog – a pic of the new Yankees invited to work out at spring training.

Yes, we’ll have a bunch of old and/or past-their-prime guys showing up in Tampa soon – from Bart and Freddy to Andruw and Ronnie. The only one I’m actually excited about is Eric Chavez. Come on, he was a great player for the A’s, remember?

He was a bona fide Gold Glove-er and had pop in his bat, plus he’s only 33. That’s the good news. The bad is that he suffers from the Nick Johnson Syndrome, which, of course, means he’s always injured. If he manages to stay healthy, he could be a nice addition to the bench, particularly when A-Rod needs a rest at third.
Tomorrow may be Super Bowl Sunday, but I’m finally starting to feel like baseball is in the air. Maybe it was seeing Pettitte’s press conference yesterday and everybody gathered in the Bronx. Or maybe my body’s alarm clock just knows when it’s time.
