Tanaka Is……

Let’s face it. Masahiro Tanaka is Superman. He can do just about anything. I wouldn’t be surprised if he could leap tall buildings in a single bound. Not only is he undefeated but he threw a complete game shutout tonight against the Mets, giving the bullpen a rest, giving the Yankees an end to their slide, giving everybody a lift. And he got a hit! I bow down to him.

Great to see Brian Roberts wield a hot bat again. It’s how I remember him when he was an Oriole. And another homer from Tex? Maybe tired legs agree with him. I’m not going to let the injury news about CC, Beltran, etc. bother me. I’m relishing this victory.

After four discouraging and frustrating losses in a row I said I was done watching the Yankees for a while, I couldn’t take the pain anymore. But I allowed my husband to talk me into watching last night after I realized Tanaka was pitching and we might actually have a chance to win. That was the kind of game I wish I could watch night after night. We need to clone Tanaka, quickly!

Yes, The Yankees totally won that game but The Mets made a few dumb plays. How do you dive for a ball when you already have two outs and the pitcher is coming to bat? And the second attempted steal was way too soon. I loved that Tanaka went the full 9 innings. When does that ever happen. And finally, I know its easier to hit home runs at Yankee Stadium than at Citifield but Tex and Solarte made it look pretty easy. GO YANKEES!!!

Hard to imagine that in a mere six weeks, Tanaka has become the stopper. But that’s EXACTLY what he does — stops losing streaks. Let’s just hope he won’t become the equivalent of Steve Carlton circa ’72 for the Phillies, when Carlton went something like 27-10 and the entire Phillies team won maybe 65 games? Oh, for some healthy arms…
