Snatched From The Jaws Of Defeat!

May 25th, 2013 by Jane Heller

That was fun. I tuned in with the score at 1-1 in the 7th, just as Nuno, who must have pitched a hell of a game, departed. Too bad he didn’t get the win, but how about that comeback victory for the Yankees.

With two down in the 9th and Rodney, the Rays’ iffy closer on the mound, I had hopes that the Yanks would miraculously score a couple of runs and tie the score, but I let out a scream when they actually did it. (Thank you, Brett Gardner, Lyle Overbay and Brennan Boesch.)

I groaned when Nova got into trouble, loading the bases, but – another miracle – he pitched out of it. And then it was Overbay’s turn to be a hero again. What a pickup he’s been, despite the error earlier in the game. And special mention must go to Ichiro for that spectacular, run-saving catch in right.

Mo notching another save was icing on the cake, talk about miracles. He’s having his best season yet.

Great baseball Memorial Day Weekend so far!

Nice little come back there! No arrow in the sky for you tonight, Rodney!!

It made it all that much sweeter for me because my mom was at the game! (MommaCase? MamiCase?) She lives down in Orlando and her company took a big group of employees down to Tampa for the game. And of course she was in her Jeter jersey, cheering on our team. There was a good mix of Yankee fans along with her, so she was in good company. She had plenty of fun and had pretty good seats.

I’d really like to see Romine learn to drop down when receiving a throw on a play at the plate. He could’ve easily prevented that run. But he’s young so I can’t be mad at him. There was still plenty of good to come from this game.

The only bad thing today (besides the crazy weather here in NY that felt more like Halloween weekend rather than Memorial Day weekend) was the NY Rangers being ousted from the playoffs. But we have our Yankees to carry the torch all through the summer…

So great that MommaCase (LOL) was at the game! It did seem like there were a lot of Yankee fans cheering. Actually, it seemed like there were more fans, period. Sorry about the Rangers. Michael wasn’t happy about their elimination at all.

That was an amazing game. I was watching the hockey and the baseball games and screaming a lot. I thought the Yankees lost in the top and bottom of the 9th and then the 10th and then pure hyper joy in the 11th. That must have felt so nice for boesch. Once again I saw how much the Yankees matter to me more than any sport. I was asked if I’d rather the Yankees win than a post season victory for any other team I root for in any sport and I choose Yankee win. I did say I’d take a Super Bowl victory and nba finals win combined with the Stanley cup to give one regular season Yankee win. We need each win or get to the playoffs

As I said earlier this week, I love that it ain”t over till it’s over in baseball though, I confess, I thought it was over yesterday with two out in the ninth and no one on base. What an exciting week of baseball it has been! And to win at the Trop – priceless!

The Case family certainly has some good luck attending Yankee games. I remember YankeeCase was at that game two summers ago when the Yankees hit three grandslams and put up 22 runs. I still thank God I had the good sense to be at that game, too, though I probably should thank you, Jane, since your visit was the impetus. Anyway, I’m really MommaCase was there for yesterday’s game!

Today I get to see my good friend who is a big Red Sox fan. I can be gracious about his team’s good play thus far this season since my team’s play has been just a little better:)

I didn’t realize you were into so many sports, Barbara. When do you have time to watch everything? Amazing. I’m excited about the French Open tennis starting today, but that’s about it.

You’re right about the “Case” family, Audrey. That game we all went to was such a dramatic turnaround. I was ready to leave after Hughes was so bad and the rain started coming down, but YankeeCase said not to give up and he was so right.
