I just landed at JFK and checked on the game (thank you At Bat app). When I heard about Cervelli’s broken hand I couldn’t believe it. He was having such a great season so far! And now Nova’s hurt too? I should have stayed in the air. Grrrrr.

This is truly devastating and I feel so for Cervelli. He has been so great this year and according to John and Suzyn he has worked very hard to be the Yankees’ #1 catcher. just as he’s acheiveing his goal, this happens. Yuck.
And Nova – wonder if he has had a problem and is just now acknowledging it? I’ll grasp at anything to explain his spotty performance this year.
And we don’t know when Youkalis is coming back either. Thank goodness we’re facing Toronto so much at the begnning of the season so we can scratch out wins despite our greatly diminished team.
On the bright side, Phelps pitched a phenomenal 4 innings. I was getting tweets all night about his 9 strikeouts. hope the David Phelps of last year is back with us, especially since he’ll probably take Nova’s place in the lineup.
I feel horrible for Cervelli too, Audrey. And you’re right about Nova – maybe he’s been feeling pain and didn’t say anything. But it looks like Phelps will take his spot and someone will be called up to be the long man. Maybe. I don’t think Wang’s ready as much as I’d like to see him get another chance.
I was saying to my husband after the game yesterday that this team is actually more fun to follow than last year’s. Didn’t the Yankees really struggle to come from behind last year? Yet this year we seem to be doing it almost every night! Of course, that means we’re getting behind to start with but this team has show itself to have that “never give up” attitude that is exciting to watch and root for. This has been a great season so far – I’m loving it!
I know what you mean, Audrey. The come-from-behind spirit is very evident with this team. I think the players each have something to prove in his own way, and they seem to mesh well. That said, I could do with a few 10-run blowouts/Janers!
I’m starting to think of this team as the Island of Misfit Toys. Does that make Girardi Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer?
