I was so surprised when I wasn’t blacked out by Fox and got to see the game. It was such an “up” to watch Nova pitching well and going deeper into the game than I expected. I would have been happier if Joba hadn’t allowed his runs to score and if Soriano could have gotten a one-two-three inning instead of making it an adventure, but it was a very satisfying win.
The Yanks looked good. Truly. We got homers from Grandy and Nunez (yes, I was glad for him after yesterday’s blunder), but even more fun when Ichiro singled and stole second and then Jeter, after fouling off numerous pitches as he usually does, went right up the middle sending Ichiro home. Loved that. Also fun was Cano’s double followed by A-Rod’s own up-the-middle single/RBI. In both cases, nobody swung for the fences and tried to do too much. I’m excited by the news that Gardner will be back to pinch run, but in the meantime Ichiro’s speed has been a pleasure.
So. Will the O’s go down again to the A’s? I’ll be scoreboard watching. It’s that time of year.
Darn, I missed a good one. But happy they won! It was so pleasant just reading about it, Jane. So nice to hear some good news for a change!!
I didn’t hear that about Gardner – what good news! I’ve missed the energy he brings to the team.
And Nova – I fell in love with him all over again today. What a pleasure it was to watch him pitch so well.
A good game to watch. Now let’s hope Oakland can help us out tonight. I don’t like sharing.

Very good news about Gardner, Audrey. He can only run, supposedly, and I don’t really get it because what happens if he injuries the elbow sliding into a base, but whatever. So far Oakland is doing its job. Score is 5-2 in the 6th.

I am leaving this afternoon for 2 weeks in Italy so I will leave the fate of the Yankees in Barbara’s hands (I think she can handle it). I will have my iPad and will try to find a paper with scores and I hope to hear and read good things, although I am not very optimistic about this year’s up and down season.
Nova was really good but CC is struggling and the RISP problem has to be solved if we have any hopes for a playoff spot, and then going any where in the playoffs.
