No cursing during this Janer today, although when the Yankees scored early I had to remind myself not to get too excited. But they kept scoring – yay for consistency! – and Hughes held the O’s in check and all was well in Yankeeville.
I guess the only newsworthy items were the return of Joba and the arrival of McGehee.
Whoever photo-shopped McGehee’s Pirates pic forgot to erase the beard, but whatever. He’s ours and he figured into today’s win, even if it was in a relatively minor way.
Girardi was smart to use Joba in a no-pressure situation. If only he hadn’t given up a homer and those singles. Oh well. He needs to get used to major league hitters again. I’m sure he was disappointed in his performance though.
So it’s on to the Mariners this weekend. Seems like we played them yesterday, but I really hope the results are better this time around – with no hit batsmen.

That was better, Jane. I couldn’t watch but I followed along on line. It was Joba’s first relief appearance so we have to give him a little room for improvement. But you’re right; he’s probably mad at himself. Nice to see the bats wake up but I’m a bit upset about batters getting hit again. So these are the 2 moves for teams facing The Yankees — 1. Pitchers they’ve never faced before. 2. Hit the batters. This does not bode well for the rest of the regular season but we got a W and that matters most.
Much better, Diane. Yes, we got the W, plus seeing them score throughout the game made it fun to watch.
Peggy and I had talked about meeting for this game but it is too hectic around here this week so we postponed a game together for another time. Darn! That would have been a fun one to be there for!
Except for the drizzle, Audrey, yes, it would have been fun to be at that one. Although who can forget that pouring rain we sat through last year along with YankeeCase.
It always seems to be raining or threatening to when we go to Yankee Stadium. I guess it’s just part of the experience for us! Except for last year, when Donna and I had bleacher seats, we always make sure we’re under cover, anyway – I’m no fonder of baking in the sun for three hours than sitting in the rain for that time.
A win just makes everything feel better. I tried to watch at work but missed at least 7 runs so I came home and watched highlights. It felt like forever since we last won.
It did feel like forever since we won, Barbara. But now the players can feel better going into the weekend. Fans too.
The Bronx Bombers are back! Did anybody else find it amusing that Casey McGehee’s transformation from a Pirate to a Yankee was like going from the ZZ Top guy to Baby Huey?
I did!
It’s August 2nd – the day we lost Munson.
