In the above pic, Granderson actually caught the ball. In tonight’s game against the Red Sox, he misplayed it, handing Boston the victory even though Ciriaco was credited with a triple. Very disheartening after the Yankees’ stirring comeback.
Sticking with the stirring comeback, I hope everybody got to see the face-off between Tex and Padilla. It was like watching this.
They really loathe each other, so it was extra sweet when Tex pounded the crap out of Padilla’s pitch, sending it into the seats and providing some real entertainment. As the beat writers were fond of saying on Twitter, Tex did a very un-Tex-like thing after he hit the homer: he admired it. Yup, he stood there for a second or two, then walked out of the box toward first instead of breaking into his usual trot. Or, as others tweeted, he “pimped it.” It was a beautiful moment in any case.
Less beautiful was CC. Sure, there was a rain delay. So what. It didn’t affect Lester. CC came out and gave up three quick runs, then settled down, then gave up more. He was just plain bad.
David Phelps, on the other hand, was brilliant. Why didn’t Joe leave him in? It was a tie game, not a save situation, and Phelps was on a roll. I get that going to Soriano was the likely move, but I always prefer to stay with the hot hand.
Rubber game tomorrow night. I’m hoping for better. Much better.

Ugh. That’s a tough loss to swallow.
I’ll be incommunicado for the next 2 weeks, starting tonight I’m going to watch nothing but Olympics until they end. Hopefully 2 weeks from now NY will still be on top of the division and not in the middle of a horrific slump.
Go Yankees!
Tex hitting that homer was very sweet. Revenge has been served but I know that more will come, I hope. Aside from this cool moment, yeah, Curtis could’ve caught the ball easily but he’s only human and I’m not that upset about it. Anyway, I’m also watching the Olympics too. Pretty good so far…
One last comment… IF the yankees can win the division and get some of their players back healthy for the playoffs, they’ll be in good shape for a deep run.
Tonight’s Olympic prime time was terrific. I’m looking forward to teo more weeks of this.
The grandy man can’t. I guess he can’t be perfect. I do expect more from cc. I was excited for tex. I can handle it all better because we have a big lead, but I also wanted phelps tp stay in and I want cc to start pitching like an ace. I am reading the language of flowers so I turned it off and tried to forget it with a really engaging book.
Don’t you love that book, Barbara? I’m still thinking about it weeks after I finished and have been recommending it to everyone.
And yes, everyone. Granderson is only human and is allowed to make mistakes. Last night’s was a costly one though.
Sean K and anyone else paying attention: I’ve been busy and haven’t been able to follow closely, but are any of the Olympic events shown live (without having to pay for a special channel)? I don’t think I’ll be watching much, if not. No fun if you already know results, and I can’t avoid hearing results. I know there is a time diff, but it seems silly to not show when you know most people are hearing results. I guess not good for ratings…
Ruth, you’re so right about the tape delayed coverage. It’s one of the reasons I don’t watch (the other being no time right now). NBC is getting bad marks for not live streaming events.
Ruth, I’m watching live soccer right now, and you can stream live events online for free. Go to http://www.nbcolympics.com and follow the steps to sign up for the online.
thanks Sean K. I’m watching some now, only because I’m doing some computer work, but normally I hate being tethered to a computer to watch stuff. guess i finally have to figure out how to do the internet on my television…..
