It seems our Houdini had a little accident. Via Brian Hoch at MLB.com:
Yankees right-hander David Robertson was diagnosed with a right mid-foot sprain after falling down a flight of stairs while moving boxes at his residence.
Robertson was taken for an X-ray on Thursday morning, which was negative, and will also undergo an MRI. The Yankees expect to have results later in the day.
Hubby Michael slipped and fell off a curb in a parking lot a few months ago and sprained his ankle. He, too, was fitted with a walking boot/cast and he still doesn’t walk without pain. Granted, he’s 100 years ago and D-Rob is just a young puppy, but I hope there are no lingering effects from our closer-in-waiting’s klutziness.

I hope this is nothing more than a minor strain and by opening season he will be ready to go.
I gasped out loud when I saw this today.
But sprains can be tricky.
It also helps as you said being a young pup.
I want to be a young pup. (whine, whine)
I assume he’ll be fine, Peg, although you’re right about sprains; they can be nagging injuries that take longer to heal than we expect. Or is that just because we’re ancient?????????
I guess Houdini forgot to cast the ‘unklutz’ spell on himself… lol!
The “klutz” thing must be going around, YankeeCase. Did you read about David Price injuring his neck while toweling off his head between innings? I’m trying not to freak out about D-Rob. On Twitter, everybody is mentioning Wang and Lisfranc but I really think/hope it’s just a sprain and the Yankees are being super cautious with all the tests. We’ll see.
I admit I had a moment of “OMG, no!!!!!” upon hearing preliminary news. But it doesn’t sound too bad (fingers crossed), and better now than in September. David Price – I’m sorry, but I laughed.
My fingers/toes/legs are all crossed, Ladyjane. Whatever the injury, I just hope it doesn’t mess with his mechanics the way Wang’s ultimately did. As for Price, how about Freddy Garcia’s finger? Remember when he cut it in a “kitchen accident?” Sigh.
Hello Jane,
You are very missed over at MLBlogs (except perhaps by the blogger who took over the number 1 most popular blog after you left.) I hate to see Robertson get hurt and I don’t expect it is anything too serious but I’m also hoping Soriano steps up this year. Do you think he will?
Hi, PB. Nice to see you over here. Apparently, Robertson has a “bone bruise.” It sounds less serious than a ligament tear but I’m waiting to hear more. Do I think Soriano steps up in the meantime? I sure hope so.
That’s the first I hear of David Price’s neck injury! That’s kinda funny…
I first heard of D-Rob’s ‘sprain’ and thought nothing of it. These things happen, and it’s only preseason. I think worst case scenarios took hold and made people go a little nuts on the radio up here. I just hope this bone bruise doesn’t linger and affects how his season starts. I think it was 2010 where he started off pretty bad…
Hee! I hadn’t heard about Price’s towel injury before, had to look it up just now. Hard to understand how one can injure themselves that way – just how hard was he toweling??
I hope it doesn’t linger too, YankeeCase. He’s wearing the boot and walking with crutches, so unless he tries to carry a recycling bin down his stairs again he should be okay.
Did you read that Price had the same injury from toweling before this one, Sue? He must do a really good job of drying himself!
Sorry Jane, just saw this commercial tonight for the other baseball game on the market now and it reminded me of your Cubs MLB 12 post the other day. Verlander does a decent acting job, doesn’t he? Guess we won’t be needing Luke Wilson for that Verlander biopic after all! lol

“Err, I’m here for the lobster…”
Wow, YankeeCase. Verlander has a whole new career if pitching doesn’t work out. Lol.
Wow! all these weird injuries. Now there is a new job Opening as a Towel Dryer. lol. Had not heard of these injuries until I came to your blog Jane. We need to appease the Baseball Gods to stop all these odd injuries but the young guns have a way of recuperating faster. BTW, hope Michael is doing better. -Emma
Haha, Emma. I guess the Rays should hire a professional towel dryer. Thanks for asking about Michael. He still wears his walking brace to keep the ankle from rolling over, but he’s basically doing fine. We all need to watch where we’re going!
Sold out stadium yesterday at Disney. Also thousands of cheerleaders for competitions. (Its a sickness in Florida)
Andy Pettitte pitched BP. Had two of his boys with him. We were sitting near them during the game.
Pineda is very laid back. Reminds me of Soriano. Throws effortlessly. Reached 93 once, 92 twice and 91 often. He will be fun to watch. Big guy!
A-rod hasn’t changed at all. Posed about 67 times during BP but didn’t get near the fans. Until he has a epifiney (?) and at least interacts a little he will never be totally respected by Yankee fans or any fans for that matter.
Braves and Disney charged $80 for “on field experience”. 80 people stood on the warning track behind home plate hoping someone would sign. On the Yankee side, Andy signed about 25, and Jones about 10 times. Braves side was a bit more. We got Cervelli and didn’t donate to the “experience”!
Yankee pups looked good.
In Tampa today vs Astros.
Thanks for the report, John. We’re all living vicariously through you down in Tampa. Pineda was said to be “sitting” in the high 80s on the radar gun for most of his few innings but Girardi said he was more interested in seeing him throw changeups and mixing up his pitches. I guess the speed on the fastball will come. If A-Rod keeps hitting, I don’t care if he signs autographs. Very glad the kids looked good since they’re our future. Today you’ll get to see the spring debut of Mo, you lucky man.
