He “Shrugged” Her?????

December 11th, 2011 by Jane Heller

As if it’s not bad enough that Manny Ramirez gets to come back and play baseball (maybe), it’s downright ridiculous what he said about the domestic violence charges he’s facing.

As per ESPN.com:

Manny Ramirez has officially been reinstated from the voluntary retirement list by Major League Baseball, sources told ESPN The Magazine’s Buster Olney on Saturday morning.

Ramirez faces a 50-game suspension when he returns, rather than 100 games, the league said earlier in the week when announcing he had filed for reinstatement. Ramirez’s 50-game suspension clock starts ticking when he signs with a team.

Ramirez already served a 50-game suspension in 2009 while with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he had been notified that he was facing another offense last April when he agreed to step away from baseball.

He also is facing criminal prosecution in Florida on charges that he slapped his wife during a recent argument. He told investigators only that he grabbed his wife by the shoulders during an argument and “shrugged” her, causing her to hit her head on the headboard of their bed.

So let me get this straight. He grabbed his wife and “shrugged” her and she hit her own head on the headboard. Hm. Maybe someone should “shrug” Manny.

I’m surprised Manny hasn’t been shrugged to be honest. With all this dirty stuff that’s come on out on him, I’d say it’s pretty clear that the lovable persona was just an act. Dude’s got problems.

  2. Jane Heller says:

Yeah, whatever happened to the lovable Manny who was just “being Manny,” Jeff? I guess he was a better actor than we ever gave him credit for.

Well, let’s see now…how can the PR spin-meisters rotate this one…?

    (a) it must be because “ingles” is his second language, and something was lost in the translation — yes, that must be it — what he REALLY meant to say was…

    (b) he “shrugged her OFF” because she was saying/doing something annoying…you know, it’s always the wife’s/girlfriend’s/lover’s fault, eh amigo?…and he just tossed her on the bed…OR…

    (c) he “SHAGGED” her — yes, THAT’S it!! You know…Austin Powers style…? In the heat of passion? And she bumped her head in the throes of such…well, you know…oh, those Latinlovers…(strike three, Manny)

I like the “shagged” idea, Dave. The English thing doesn’t fly because he’s from NY!

I am so damn tired of everyone’s bad behavior – not just atheletes just everyone everywhere.
Am I the only one? I fear so since you can become celebrated and rewarded for bad behavior now.

There was a lovable Manny huh? Hmmm.. I think I missed that persona.
He always seemed like a punk to me.
Sure he would inject humor but a punk with humor.
Can we just hope he doesn’t get picked up?
    Could there possibly be Karma?

  6. Jane Heller says:

Everyone everywhere? LOL, Peg. There are still a few good people who get rewarded (they had a nice “Heroes” special on CNN last night). But I know what you mean. The “lovable” Manny was the guy who was absentminded and seemed to march to his own drummer and because he hit like crazy his strangeness was embraced…for awhile. Not anymore. I can’t imagine a team signing him after the suspension but I’ve been wrong before.

I read two different fans that want him back. One is a Red Sox fan and another a Dodger fan. I rather don’t go there. I believe in giving someone a second chance but a third one? I don’t think so and with a baggage of 50 games suspension. NO! Look at Milton Bradley how many chances he has gotten?

Milton Bradley is a good example, Emma. Enough with these characters already – as talented as they are/were!

  9. Ruth says:

Jane, I love the CNN Heroes show….it’s ‘must-see TV’ for us every year. It has (I believe) always been on on Thanksgiving evening, which I prefer, but this year was a live event, and it was just as good. I’m blown away by these people every year. It’s definitely one of the best things on TV. I know that has nothing to do with Manny…guess I should say something about him. He’s a punk, for sure, but I have never feared a one-two punch like him and Papi, so I’m glad those days are over.

  10. Jane Heller says:

The “Heroes” show does restore our faith in humankind, doesn’t it, Ruth? Very uplifting. I, too, thought Manny and Ortiz were a fearsome twosome, so I’m glad they’re not continuing their act.
