Avert your eyes if you’d rather not see a girly comment right here: “CJ Wilson is seriously cute.” There. I said it.
Now. About the baseball part of Wilson. With CC safely fronting our rotation until the end of time, we must turn our attention to acquiring a new starter. Wilson won 16 games for the Rangers this past season and threw 200 innings. While it’s true that his postseason record was abysmal and I can’t account for it, I still think he’s worth a serious look. He’s young, doesn’t have a terrible injury history, seems to enjoy the spotlight and isn’t wedded to Texas, having been born and raised in SoCal.
He’ll have plenty of suitors, including the Rangers, and I have no clue how much money/years he’ll command. But I just have this feeling he belongs on the Yankees. Think how much fun it would be to have a CC, an AJ and a CJ. I can just picture Girardi getting his initialed pitchers mixed up.
Seriously, here’s how I know CJ Wilson needs to be in pinstripes. The evidence is on this video in which he judges people’s tattoos. Look which one he picks as the winner.

Now THAT’S a delicious way to start my day. I’LL SAY he’s worth a serious look……
Congrats on keeping C.C.! Yanks need him badly. I’m not so sure they need another magazine coverboy to compete with A-Rod though. In all seriousness, I think CJ is a bit overrated, but someone’s gonna pay him a lot of money anyway. More power to him!
Hummina Hummina Hummina
Well I’m very surprised that CC never even used the opt out. I knew he’d return but I just thought he was willing to test the market which most players would do. And the offer isn’t even extremely long while CC gets rewarded handsomely so it’s a win win for both the team and CC. He’s a rare breed and a man of his word which I really like because he didn’t owe us anything. He already helped us win a World championship. So despite what some fans may think, these players always have to look out for their best interests and make the most money possible to support themselves and their families. But I’m glad he stayed and proved us all wrong. He really wants to be a Yankee and does love New York as much as he says.
Eye candy he is! I shudder to think he could go on a serious tattoo binge just hanging with AJ
I knew I wasn’t alone in my thinking, Ruth. HAHA.
Very happy about CC, Jeff. We needed to retain him and I’m so glad he and the Yankees didn’t prolong the agony. I think CJ is more than a cover boy. He’ll get more money than he’s worth, but that’s the nature of free agency, especially when you’re a pitcher and the market is thin.
LOL, Peg. I second that.
I thought CC would opt out too, just for the reasons you say. Agents put those clauses in contracts for a reason and CC had every right to test the waters. I’m just glad he didn’t and we can move on. He really does seem to love New York – a perfect match.
Oh, Cindy. I didn’t think of that. AJ would turn CJ into a virtual tattoo. Hopefully CC would knock some sense into him.
Luv all them initials! Let’s hope that our NYYs keep it up…pretty soon, we’ll resemble a federal agency! Well, hopefully not in terms of WASTED millions upon millions…upon millions…
I know, I put down Mr. Wilson yesterday; but you made a convincing point, She-Fan, and you reinforced it today…so now I’m on board…and, besides…
Today’s Zany Irrelevance is a song parody of “Spanish Eyes,” as done by Al Martino & many others. It was meant at first to be a serenade, just “To CC from Cashman” [and all of us] but, hey…why not increase the playing field…?
“Ooo…southpaw ways…
Teardrops will fall without your southpaw ways…
Please…we cry…
Tell us “hola,” but please don’t say “goodbye”…
Soon…you’ll return…
Stashing from Cash-Man all your stuff can earn!
Please…C.J., C.C. –
Say you and your southpaw ways will play for me…”
Don’t know the tune? Maybe not. Jane doesn’t seem to care much for crooners and their wares, even if he WAS in “The Godfather” — [the singer, not the song]
so just for further demented fun, I’ve added this musical link…and now you know…

“Jane doesn’t seem to care much for crooners.” You’re right about that, Dave. So right.
We lost power on Saturday night from the very wet, heavy 6″ of snow here. Just got it back today. We didn’t freeze thanks to a kind neighbor who loaned us his old generator and my electrician son, who installed it.
So WOW! I was so glad to come back and see CC and Swishy are back. That made my day! (Not as much as having heat, light and water, especially hot water, but still . . .)
Went to the gym Monday and someone was watching Yankees Classic on YES and I almost wept to see Jeter. Sigh – it’s gonna be a long, lonely winter, and I’ll feel the emptiness.
Poor you, Melissa! Thank goodness for that generator. It wasn’t much fun to be without power when I was in CT this summer and went through the hurricane but at least the weather was warm. Anyhow, yes, our team is intact. Nobody’s been voted off the island so far, unless you count Scott Proctor.
When we lost power for 5 days with Irene, I just felt like it was no big deal. Inconvenient, but not horrible. In the fall, the core of the house (slab, foundation, walls, etc) has cooled off from the summer and not absorbed the heating from the winter. We’ve barely had our heat on this October. So the house cooled down fast. When it got below 58, it turned me into a whiney baby.
I would have been way worse than a whiny baby, Melissa. Losing power makes us grateful for the comforts we take for granted, doesn’t it?
As for Wilson, I also think he’s cute. But his post season stats aren’t great. Does he have trouble pitching under pressure? If brought to NY, can he handle the craziness? Just wondering.
I think his postseason, while awful stat-wise, didn’t reflect what he can do. I may be wrong, but didn’t he pitch in the previous postseason too? He just doesn’t strike me as a guy who worries about pressure. He’s been on the national stage for awhile – longer than AJ ever was before he became a Yankee.
The summary of ESPN NY’s take on the potential CJ signing… what do you think?

Wow. Thanks for posting that link, Rachel. Very good info. I disagree with their first point about the Rangers’ infield defense being better than that of the Yankees. Even with an aging Jeter, I still like our guys better at their positions and having “an extreme ground ball pitcher” doesn’t scare me. They do have a point about Wilson pitching mostly against AL West teams with anemic offenses. That does scare me.
I agree. I think our infield, even with A-Rod and Jeter.. actually, ESPECIALLY with A-Rod and Jeter, is great. At least just as good as Texas’s. I also think the point about the AL West teams is scary too. He’s someone I’d be concerned with not being able to handle the pressure of NY/AL East races.
I don’t feel great about any of the starting pitching options… but I would like to see them pick up two, or at least pick up one and re-sign Freddy. Yu Darvish is an interesting option, but I have Igawa PTSD.
There’s no one that really says, “Sign me,” Rachel. Buehrle just won a Gold Glove today and he’s had a stellar career but I’m not sure how he’d fare in the AL East either. I agree about Darvish; Igawa PTSD is a permanent condition!
