Personally, I don’t care which team wins.
But if I were to pick a favorite, here’s how I would weigh things:
I still have some anti-Rangers sentiment because they beat the Yankees so recently and there was all that silly business about our fans being mean to Mrs. Lee, not to mention the even sillier Antlers and Claws worn by the fans in Arlington.
On the other hand, I’m usually a rooter for the American League team, which would put me squarely in the Rangers’ camp, plus I’m not big on the Wild Card team winning it all; I think the teams that win divisions should play each other.
All that aside, Friend of the Blog Jeff is a Cardinals diehard. He commented here the other day that he plans to go to his first ever World Series game. How can I root against his guys?
On the other hand (apparently, I have more than two), Jeff trashes A-Rod way too much on his blog, so why should I root for Pujols?
As I said at the top, I’m pretty neutral. May the best team win.
P.S. There’s been technical trouble with the blog again, so if you can’t comment the first time, try again!

Not that you asked but I am leaning towards the Cardinals.
I really dislike the Rangers.
I will check in on the score but I doubt I’ll even watch to be honest with you.
I am heading north (7 hrs away) this Thursday for a family visit.
My father and I spoke on the phone yesterday and he said he was glad the Yankees weren’t playing so I would be coming home for a visit. That made me laugh. True, but it still made me laugh. Bad daughter. :-)
Hi everyone….I love the World Series, so I’ll be watching. I’m rooting for the Cards because I just want to see them finish this incredible run…from making the playoffs on the last day of the season to the World Series…incredible. I’m like you, Jane, in that I usually support the American League, but I just can’t get it up for Rangers…don’t know why. I really admire Michael Young and love looking at C.J., but the heart wants what the heart wants (and maybe it ruins it for me to see George Bush sitting up front at every game). I’m hoping both teams can bring the entertainment….a small point, but at least when the Yankees are in the WS, you know you’ll have some good National Anthems and 7th inning God Bless Americas….other cities tend to disappoint. I think Sheryl Crow is from St. Louis….think she sang at the All-Star game a few years back…maybe they’ll throw her out there. Wow, that’s just a hard-hitting point from a big fan, isn’t it? I guess I shouldn’t share every thought that is in my head…
I’m rooting for the Rangers because it’s been 61 years since they’ve won a World Series (AKA never) and for the Cardinals it’s only been 5 years. Plus my team denied the Rangers a victory last year, so in some weird illogical logical way I’m cool with them winning this year because I know we already beat them last year. Or something.
I agree with all you said Jane, but I’ll probably root for the Cards because I, like Ruth, can’t stand the thought of GW’s team winning. The man sickens me.
I just hope it goes to 7 because I’ll miss falling asleep to baseball!
I did mean to ask which team people were rooting for, Peg. I just forgot to put the question in the headline. LOL. I’ll probably watch if I happen to be around and Michael seems to enjoy watching. It’s baseball, at least, as opposed to the dark time when we don’t see anybody in uniform! So you’re driving seven hours for a family visit on Thursday? Now that’s being a good daughter.
HAHA, Ruth. I never thought of picking a team based on the talent they’re likely bring to sing the National Anthem, but it’s an excellent point! In Texas it’ll probably be a bunch of country singers I’ve never heard of. Hm.
Interesting logic, Kaiser. I can see your point. Sort of.
I second that about the the seven games (and GW too). The more baseball, the better. And the more exciting the games, the better still.
As loathsome as Bill DeWitt is, I can never root for a Texas team — except the Dallas Mavericks last June, because I like Mark Cuban as much as I can’t stand LeBron James. And, under some circumstances, the University of Texas Longhorns, because the rest of Texas hates them. And, unlike Met fans who blindly support the National League team no matter what, I will not root for a team to win the World Series JUST because they’re in the American League. Cardinals in 5.
First off…you had me at hello today. That is: your first sentence was all I was gonna say too, then sign off and leave it at that. But now that you’ve trumped me…
I’ve been a faithful follower of the WS since 1959; before that, sadly, I was too young to know (and thus missed a lotta GREAT ones). I’ve watched the Series almost every year (missed the ’84 Series when we vacationed in Europa), and found somebody to root for almost every year. HOWEVER…without a doubt, this is The Most Unappealing Matchup I have seen (for me personally) in my fifty-three seasons.
Why? Well, I’ve spoken ad nauseum how I’ve never ever rooted for the Cardinals. Bob Cerv’s Corollary Theory of Teams You Hate goes thusly: at some point in your life, you WILL be forced to root for that team, because of their opponent…and OF COURSE, when that happens, they will lose, therefore confirming why you never ever root for them. And when was that year? We all know: 2004. They lost EVERY GAME.
And I’ve probably been equally nauseating about how I never ever try to root for teams from DALLAS. You don’t really wanna know why…JFK and Clint Murcheson, and oh forget it…and this year, I was forced to cheer very weakly for the Dallas NBA team vs. the Miami LeBrons…and Dallas won. Whoop-de-doo.
So I guess I’ll ‘root’ very very weakly for the tex-ass team, since they’re ORIGINALLY from Washington, and because they’ve never won it, and because the Cardinals have won 3 WS over the Yanks (’26, ’42, and ’64) and Our Boyz have only won 2 over them (’28 and ’43…unrequited revenge). Does that cover it?
A bold prediction, Uncle Mike. Since I don’t follow any team sport except baseball, I don’t have grievances against football teams or basketball teams or anybody who plays for either.
Yes, that covers it, Dave. We know where you stand. (I think.)
Jane, like you, I don’t really care which team wins. An all-midwest WS? Talk about a ratings bonanza! ;-) Anyway, if pressed, I’d probably pick the Rangers, since they lost last year, and I really don’t like the idea of a wild-card team winning the series. Actually, I don’t really like the whole idea of wild card teams even making the playoffs, but that’s a whole new topic that I don’t have the energy to go into right now.
I don’t think of Texas as the “midwest,” Sue. Aren’t they considered “south?” LOL. If you don’t like the wild card concept now, which I don’t either, wait until Bug Selig institutes his multi-wild card bonanza. The whole idea makes me cringe.
I’m not that great a daughter – I’ll be there through the whole weekend.
It’s called Italian Catholic guilt that my father has a way of giving me to come visit and help out.
It will be a fun weekend she says sarcastically.
thank God there will be wine….lots of wine.
Italian Catholic guilt plus wine = action packed weekend, Peg. Haha. Maybe there will be pasta too?
4Got to tell U that I’m outa here tmw, and prob’ly not within range of a computer for a week, going to see Mama and then off to a weddin’. Have a fine week. And sports? As Jersey Bob is fond of saying (about everything): “It all SUCKS!”
Hehehe… I understand, Jane, and your assessment is fair. But it’s just… so EASY to rip A-Rod ;-) Actually, I managed to get tix for both Games One AND Two, so I’m about as giddy as a 32 year old male can be! ZING!
Travel safely, Dave, and have fun.
You’re going to TWO games, Jeff? Wow! Now I might have to root for the Cardinals. Wave to us.
You bet! I will! Right field bleachers, about 10 rows up. I’ll be the guy in full red Cardinals regalia — wait… well, I’ll be one of MANY guys in full red Cardinals regalia ;-)
Nice seats, Jeff! I hope you’re bringing your glove for all those fly balls.
