Let’s Hear It For The Sweep

Since you guys thought yesterday’s cheerleader was a transvestite, I thought I’d try this little blonde on you. I wish she had blue pom poms and a pinstripe outfit on instead of the dreaded red, but I haven’t learned Photo Shop yet.

Anyhow, how about A.J.? When he gave up that homer to Willingham in the first inning, I was more than a little anxious that things would go south. But no! He was fantastic. Truly. I know people think the A’s are hardly more than a minor league team, but anybody with a bat in his hands is a threat. That’s my position. A.J. deserves kudos for going seven and looking good doing it.

And speaking of looking good, how about that comebacker that Joba turned into a double play? Right on the heels of the comebacker that Garcia turned into a DP in the previous game. I like it. And I like that Mo set the A’s down one-two-three. Order has been restored. Soriano who?

And finally, how about Swisher living up to his “Swishalicious” nickname for a change? That homer was sweet. I hope it signals the end of his funk.

So….our boys go down to Anaheim, the scene of many a massacre. Whenever I think about playing the Angels, I get horrible flashbacks to a game I went to when Garret Anderson had TEN RBIs…to the era when we couldn’t beat them if they’d played blindfolded. And, of course, I flash back to this creature.

Please, Yankees. Beat the Angels this weekend and beat them quickly. Thank you. xxoo

Jane- use this as a memory with the Angels instead. It was at Yankee Stadium… but still.

I remember that game so well, Rachel. (Watching the video made me miss Damon, btw. And seeing Lackey on the mound made the win even sweeter.) It was such a relief that it was the Angels who made those kind of mistakes after all the years when they were the ones who played great defense and we were the ones who messed up. I hope the tide has turned for good!

  3. YankeeCase says:

Well I missed the entire game, except for about 20 minutes(?) of the second inning today because of work… Darn these day games!!

But looks like it was what we all wish for each game : outscore the opposition, starters go deep into the game, bullpen holds the opposing bats at bay, Mariano wrap it up! Not much else to be said!

Except, nice sweep…. By the Yankees, and the White Sox…. ;D

(transvestite cheerleader?! lol! that cheerleader on yesterday’s post did look kinda shady…!)

  4. Jane Heller says:

Don’t you hate when work gets in the way of baseball, YankeeCase? The nerve. Yes, the game was everything we could have hoped for. The White Sox did their job too. And didn’t the Rays lose?

  5. YankeeCase says:

Hmmmm, they did lose too! Excellent…..!

Have you seen the article about the All-Star votes yet? This is it here. Six Yankees in the lead to start the game! That’s our four infielders, our catcher, and Granderson in the outfield! Even if some don’t start, they’re just about sure to make it on. And of course we’d have to get Mariano in there! Along with CC and AJ(?!). And how about some love for David Robertson?!

    I’m not being greedy…. am I?! !O_o!

  6. I definately dig the blonde cheerleader. I’ve noticed a lot of teams are real streaky this season. There are a few consistant teams, but most seem to be riding a roller coaster. Looks like the Yankees are definately on one of there ups.

No love for the Rally Monkey, Jane? I’m shocked! Shocked to find that there is gambling in this establishment…er…or something like that. ;)

I’m looking forward to the series this weekend, though I’ll be catching a lot of it on the radio. One thing is for certain – when our two teams play, whatever the outcome, it’s never dull.

  8. John says:

Overall another please to listen to game.

Joba was on track to implode when his glove got in the way.

I’ve always been told there is something in the water on the west coast that breeds those strange alien beings. A few early runs will keep them at bay.

  9. Audrey says:

It was hard to listen to this game on my drive back from tornado-torn Massachusetts. Between the lightning-induced radio static and the pounding of rain on my car I could barely hear John Sterling exclaim “The Yankees win!” But win they did and it was a nice conclusion to the series, which seemed to have a little bit (actually a lot) of everything good (for the Yanks, anyway). That Boston and Tampa Bay lost and helped us extend our lead over them was also very considerate. Thanks guys!

  10. dj says:

Audrey, sorry you had all that excitement going on outside of your radio! I picked my boys up from “school’ (aka daycare) and we were listening to the game on my iphone. (LOVE that MLB at bat app!!) The boys have only heard John one other time exclaiming “Thhhhhhheeeeeee Yankees Win!” and they totally cracked up. So, I was very excited the Mo was about to get the last out as we were pulling in the driveway and we were going to get to hear John……and we pulled into the garage and lost the signal! ACK!!

  11. Audrey says:

DJ, that’s terrible! But I wonder – could you get that wonderful phrase as a ringtone? Something worth looking into . . .

  12. John says:

Audrey, I have John Sterlings call as my ring tone and actually put my phone next to Johns ear when he was sitting behind Jane at Spring Training a couple of years ago. My daughter dialed my number and John turned to me and said “Oh my thats nice”!

  13. Jane Heller says:

You’re right about teams being streaky, Mike. One of the saving graces for the Yankees has been that other teams in their division have been up and down too. Nobody’s on a really consistent roll yet.

Well, Kristen. I admit that some of those rally monkey videos are pretty funny and make me laugh. I think it’s the thunder stix that I have absolutely no love for. It’ll be interesting to see what craziness develops between our teams in this series. Maybe it’s a good thing you’ll be away for the weekend and can only listen to the games sporadically!

Joba did get himself into trouble yesterday, but that DP saved him, John, and we could all breathe easier. Whew. Yes, we do have alien beings here in California. It makes life so much more interesting. LOL about playing John his ringtone!!!

Oh, Audrey. Last night on the news I heard about the tornadoes in Springfield and elsewhere. It must have been frightening to drive in that weather too. Glad you’re safe. Yes, very considerate on the part of the Red Sox and Rays.

I love my iPhone At Bat app too, DJ, and don’t know what I’d do without it. I have it on whenever I leave the house. Audrey and John have the right idea for you about the ringtone. You can have John and his call 24/7!

  14. Audrey says:

    John, I love it!

  15. YankeeCase says:

(hmmm, is this a re-post? ay caramba, i hope not! ‘your comment is awaiting moderation?’ qua-za?! this is why you always copy before you submit, kids!)

Hmmmm, they did lose too! Excellent…..!

Is that iPhone At Bat app free for download or do you have to pay a fee? My random work hours have made me miss more games than I wanted to for the past few years. Good to hear they swept the A’s and it was up against very formidable pitching. The division race will not be any easier going forward this year so hopefully they can keep up with this momentum.

  17. Jeff says:

The A’s might be hitting impaired, but their pitching is no joke. I look for them to stay in it. Gio made one mistake and Swish knocked it. As for the Rally Monkey… well, I’m a fan so I’ll just keep my mouth shut. Good luck!

  18. Jane Heller says:

It’s not a free app, Leo. Go on iTunes and found out how much it is. (Or maybe someone else here remembers.) But it’s worth every penny, I can attest to that.

I know you love the rally monkey, Jeff, and, as I said above, those videos putting the monkey into well-known movies can be hilarious. But when the fans start waving the stuffed animals, well, let’s just say it’s not my thing.

  19. Bob Cerv says:

    Well, hello there!
It’s not like I couldn’t be bothered to post…I couldn’t post ’cause my illustrious guv-mint agency took my computer away…for a techie “upgrade”…should only take ‘an hour or two,’ he said…and then, 21 hours later, Tech Guy finally sez it’s ready (but hey, whaddya expect from Guv-Mint??)
Meanwhile — well, what a lovely series, that one. Didn’t see any, but who cares when they win! You may recall that on Tuesday, b4 the Yanks got into Cruise Control, I was able to make my way thru the steam heat and DC traffic to a Nats-Phils game. Horrible heat & humidity… and so, of course, our seats were NOT in the shade, either. No matter. Son #2 joined us just b4 gametime — he, like me, has NO love for Cliff Lee, who he’s sure only signed with Philly ’cause he hates the Yanks — and who was 3-0 lifetime against the (G)Nats. Well, that night, the ‘Gnats’ were like biting flies. All that sweatin’ and sufferin’ was well worth it — Nats beat the wee-wee out of Lee, 10-2, so we enjoyed a “Double Cruise” that nite!!

Obnoxious Dave couldn’t resist one LOUD wisecrack (we had at least 25-30 Phillie fans in front of us) –”HEY CLIFF — THANX FOR NOT SIGNING WITH THE YANKEES!!” I joked some more with Son #2 after the game and said, “Hey — look what happened when Mom messed with your Yanks-O’s game! (that one was: Yanks 15, O’s 2). And look what happened to Lee tonite! It’s NOT NICE to mess with Yankee Karma!!” He LOVED that…after all the Crap I’ve read this week about MLB’s “Most Over-Rateds,” with No’s 1, 2 and 3 being Yankees — it feels REAL good to see ‘em do their talking on the field!!!

  20. Jane Heller says:

Hey, Dave. Sorry you had a computer situation. I did think of you when I heard that the Nats beat Cliff Lee. Must have been some fun watching that one (aside from the heat). It just goes to prove that he’s human and that any team can beat any other team on any given night (my mantra).

  21. dj says:

    Leo,
The app is $14.99 I believe. I downloaded it before I “discussed” it with the hubby, but a few hours later when he could listen to his Twins game, I was the best wife ever! hee, hee. It’s a LOT cheaper than the Extra Innings and I personally like listening to the games better than watching. Totally worth it!

I have only been able to check the itunes I can get on my phone and haven’t found the John ringtone. That would be great! (and really annoy some Yankee haters I work with –BONUS!). I’ll have to do a little more searching on the home computer tonight…

  22. Jane Heller says:

John, where did you find the Sterling ringtone? I know I’ve seen it for download but DJ says it’s not on iTunes.

  23. seindsfeld says:

That’s funny Jane, sometimes when I watch them play the Angels I think of that day Arod it 3 home runs in one game and got 7 RBIs… who was the pitcher you ask? Bartolo Colon! :D But mostly crushing defeats in the playoffs too, except the last one (thanks Rachel). Anywho, this sweep was so great. It had just about everything, and I thought the A’s were pretty good this year. I’m so glad Swisher got that blast. Btw, have you seen what they can do in surgery these days? That cheerleader could still be a guy :P

  24. Jane Heller says:

A-Rod does like to hit at Angel Stadium, seindsfeld. I hope he’ll feel comfortable there again this weekend. I’d love to see him knock a few into the seats.

YankeeCase, don’t know why your comment went into the spam folder. Strange. But I rescued you. Should Robertson make the All-Star team? Why not? I like that idea a lot. He just doesn’t have the high profile others do, I guess. But he does deserve some love.
