Ok, Greg Bird is out of the picture for now, but how about the murderer’s row on display in today’s finale against the Rays? Stanton, Judge and Sanchez all hit bombs and Didi put on a HR show yesterday. Good job, guys.
Severino was impressive even if the Rays are notorious underachievers at the plate.
The important points were that Stanton rebounded from the booing he earned yesterday, Sanchez woke up from his slumbering start to the season and Judge continued to flex his muscles. If I were an opposing pitcher, I would have nightmares thinking about facing this lineup even if they do go into slumps now and then.
Speaking of offense, the O’s come to the Bronx for our first matchup with them this year. They can hit, but can they pitch? We shall see.
Oh – I forgot to mention – I’ve been spending the winter in St. Petersburg, FL (actually I did mention it in a previous post about going to the first spring training game at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa), and now I’ll be living here full time starting in June. So whenever the Yanks come into town to play the Rays, I hope to be at the Trop. I also hope to catch a glimpse of the players while they’re coming and going at their hotel. Recently, I snapped this pic at the Vinoy while the Red Sox were in town.
Do you honestly think I’m NOT going to take a photo of our heroes? Not a chance.
Jane, congrats on the upcoming move to FL. You’ll be missing the bipolar Northeast weather once you go. Yesterday’s game was fantastic by all accounts. The Big 3 were once again given a chance to bat 2-4 and they delivered. Snell is a LHP so I presume that will be our regular lineup order for them against lefties. Severino pitched excellently and gave us length by going 7 IP with only 2 ER (1 was due to Warren but it counted against him). That gave most of the pen some a much needed break. We need the rest of our starters to start giving some length and Boone to not pull them so early so the pen could stay as fresh as possible. I’m ready to beat up the O’s as we always do so well.
Beating up on the O’s would be lovely, Leo. It’s 0-0 at the moment.
To quote one of our favorite managers in regards to yesterday, it’s not what you want. It was just one of those games where nothing really went right for us. Tanaka was dealing and made one mistake that cost him, Green was unusually ineffective, and the offense couldn’t hit Cashner. Betances should just work low leverage innings for now until he can prove he could be counted on. Time to move forward and beat them up as I know we could.
Good attitude, Leo. I was brooding about the loss last night, but I’ll snap out it :)
Jane, tonight was an even worse loss to brood over that even I sulked at for a little while and I didn’t even watch the whole game! I was out but followed it on my trusty Fox Sports Go app. Players were dropping like flies with injuries and ailments galore. The postgame did confirm that best case scenarios for all the players and they won’t miss much time. Phew. The pen did the best it could considering the offense couldn’t come through in the late innings so at least there’s something to take away as well as the injuries not being too severe. Holder will be a scapegoat though. We need our bats to come alive again, particularly Sanchez and Stanton. It’s still early in the season though.
Last night was a bummer, no question, Leo. To be able to have the bullpen hang in and hold the O’s scoreless for so long was great and then – boom – Holder gives it up. Awful. Of all the ailments, it sounds like CC’s hip could be the most troublesome but we’ll have to see. For me, aside from the lack of offense and the continuing hitting prowess of Machado (would I ever like to have that guy on the Yankees!), was Didi’s getting thrown out at home plate earlier in the game. That was a momentum killer.
The first two games were glorious compared to Sunday’s. Can’t wait to see you write up on that travesty, Jane.
Your comment and my post must have just crossed in cyberspace, Audrey. Take a look. I was so disgusted I left it to Newsday to summarize.
