Snowed Out!

April 2, 2018

What a bummer! Don’t the baseball gods understand that it’s spring? I feel so sorry for my friends who were planning to be at Opening Day today, but it’s not to be. Sob.

Meanwhile, I wasn’t happy with the way the Toronto series ended. The boys never seem to give Sonny Gray any run support, and yesterday’s game was no exception (well, they got 4 runs but not many hits). And then there was Boone leaving Robertson in to face Smoak. Seriously? Who didn’t know there would be a grand slam in that scenario?

Prior to that, we had another meltdown by Betances. He’s got so much talent. I really hope he can work out his mechanics or get his head straight or whatever it is.

The injuries, too, are a problem. They always are, I know. But I just want Hicks and company back as soon as possible.

Hoping for better weather in the Bronx tomorrow, but rain is in the forecast????

Well, that was worth the wait! The snow day worked out for me since I was working Monday afternoon and would have missed the game but was off on Tuesday and watched the entire glorious Sir Didi show. I have high hopes for today’s game with Severino starting. It would be nice if Judge got the home runs started but he’s hitting and walking so I’ll happily take that and Stanton – well, five strikeouts in one game is NOT the way he wants to be remembered for his first Yankee Stadium Opening Day but this, too, shall pass. He’ll be finding the right field seats and center-right bleachers before we know it.

Audrey! So great that you’re back in action here. And yes, I agree about yesterday’s Opening Day. I, too, was tied up on Monday and worried I’d miss OD for the first time in years, but thanks to the snow-out, I got to see most of the “Sir Didi show.” All those RBIs must have made him feel so proud, given that the media was so focused on Judge and Stanton during the off-season. Didi can hit, as we know from last year. Speaking of Stanton, I guess he’s pressing, wanting to make a big impression with his new team. Also the weather may be a factor. It’s tough to hit HRs in the cold, so he and Judge should start hitting bombs once the temperatures climb. Fingers crossed for Severino today.

The Didi show was fantastic yesterday. Sure he’s great but I’ve really salivated at the thought of having Judge, Stanton, and Sanchez batting 2-4 but he’s happily proving me wrong right now while batting cleanup and the others are struggling. The bullpen is a small concern right now. Any lead that we’ve had so far as been given up. I won’t worry too much about it since we have strong arms there unless this becomes a trend.

I’m not worried about D-Rob (despite the other day) or Chapman. Betances could be a concern. And then there’s the middle relievers. I’m always concerned about them!

The Judge, Stanton and Sanchez combo has proved potent today!

They awakened! Loving this game :)
