Before the Yankees take on Toronto tonight, just a word about the past two series. Yanks-A’s was mostly a success, but losing to the O’s was a bitter pill to swallow.
There were high points at Camden Yards, no question. The pitching was good. Judge hit his first grand slam. Gardner was homer happy. So was Holiday. But there were low points too. Castro isn’t exactly Mr. Golden Glove. And Tanaka….what can I say about Tanaka.
He had bounced back in his last start and looked as if he’d fixed whatever was wrong. But last night he was throwing medicine balls to the O’s, Adam Jones in particular, and I don’t think the problem is mechanics. I’d be willing to bet he’s feeling pain and not telling anyone. He’s in an opt-out year. Too much money on the line to go down with an injury, let alone have surgery.
But I’m merely speculating. The kids continue to be fun to watch, and although the Blue Jays are always tough to beat, I hope they won’t let Bautista and company push them around.
