It’s been a long time since I posted the laughing lady, but it seemed appropriate after the Yankees finished off the A’s with a four-game sweep. I wish we could play at the Oakland Coliseum everyday.
Just about everybody contributed to the four wins, even Teixeira, who finally looked like he wasn’t toast. Ditto: CC. But the resurgence of Beltran, the old war horse, has been a sight to behold. He was meant to be a DH at his age and has thrived in the role. I don’t understand Girardi’s thinking when he insists to the media that he’ll slot A-Rod in as DH when he’s off the DL because “A-Rod is our DH, period.” Whatever happened to going with the hot hand?
Ellsbury, too, is proving that when healthy he can be an effective player. He can go on a tear and be a real catalyst for us. And then there’s McCann. When he’s hitting homers and doubles and driving in runs, he’s dangerous.
I was glad to see Pineda have a good game yesterday. I feared for him in the first inning. I worried he’d get shelled. He didn’t. He hung in and pitched better than he has all season. Was it a fluke or a sign of things to come? We’ll have to wait and see.
And, of course, our bullpen is just crazy good.
It goes without saying that I really like when the Yankees win consistently, not just every now and then, and this weekend in Oakland made me a laughing lady.
It was a very exciting 4-game series, Jane. All in all, its really the pitching that is making this team a winner, but the bats did what they had to do. A-Rod can’t play the field anymore so when he’s “healthy”, he has to be the DH. The interview after Sunday’s game made me feel like Beltran prefers to be on the field rather than the DH, but he might just be saying that to be behind Girardi. Clearly, Beltran’s numbers are better when he DH’es but I think he’s seeing the ball well now so it doesn’t matter if he’s on the field or not. It’s especially nice to see that different players in each game are bringing home the runs, other than Beltran. Anyway, nice for them to have a night off – hope they bring out the broom for Toronto to – and we’re in 3rd place in the ALC east!!! GO YANKEES!!!
Always love beating Toronto. Fingers crossed.
Hi Jane and fellow Yankee fans – Yes, I am still alive, but it’s been a while since I’ve had the leisure to catch up on your thoughts about our Yankees. My family spent the first week of May in the southwest hiking the national parks, then after a spending just enough time at home to catch up on laundry and get some groceries I flew down to Florida to visit with my dad. At least he has MLB-TV and we spent some happy hours (and a few unhappy ones) watching the Yankees mostly win. Now I’m home, the Yankees are back on the east coast and I am ready for another winning homestand. Time to make a run at first place!
What fun hiking in the southwest, Audrey! And I’m glad your dad had MLB.TV in FL so you could watch games. As for first place, I’d just like the Yanks to knock off teams in front of them and see where it leads.
If we can’t take two out of three from Toronto all the winning we did on the West Coast means nothing. We’ll be back in the cellar. Let’s hope Eovaldi has another good game in him.
Go Evo!
Eovaldi did his job! Now it is up to Nova. We need to take advantage of the Blue Jays while their bats are cold.
I heard a quote that was credited to Casey Stengel that said something like, “You have to beat up on the bad teams, that way you only have to go 50/50 against the good ones.”
Evo was fantastic! He’s getting better every time out these days. Kirby Yates was impressive too. I’m all for beating up on a team when they’re bats are cold. It’s certainly been done to us.
I’m also always amazed at how calm Evo looks during each of his starts. He never seems nervous or edgy. Just what we need! Hope Nova can step up. And, of course, hope the bats stay alive. GO YANKEES!!!
He does look calm, Diane. Now Nova keeps to keep us rolling.
