Some Positives in a Season of Negatives

September 17, 2014

Positive Negative

How impressive that Dellin Betances actually surpassed Mo’s single-season strikeout record tonight. I mean seriously. Jeter’s retirement signals the end of an era, but here we have another homegrown kid who made good. One season does not a career make, but it’s a start.

Other bright spots? McCarthy. Who knew he could pitch so well and so consistently? Maybe even he didn’t, but he has.

And then there’s Headley. The guy gets hit on the chin and comes right back and dives into the stands to catch a ball. If I’m the Yankees I sign him for next year.

And then there’s the fact that we’re done with the Trop for 2014. Yay. Enough with the hit batsmen.

So now it’s countdown time until the end of the season. I have to say I’m ready to put this one behind me. It was a miserable year for injuries, for disappointments, for sad stories like Carlos Beltran and his wife losing their baby, all of it. Time to turn the page and hope for better things to come.

One “BRIGHT” consolation, not enough games left to catch the Red Sox !

All these hit batsmen…really nuts. This season I think we have to consider any game where The Yankees score 3 or more runs a Janer. LOL!!! Looking forward to sweeping Toronto. GO YANKEES!!!

Don’t you mean for the Red Sox to catch us, John, or am I missing something? (You and the Red Sox. You never quit.)

Hahaha, Diane. A Janer is now officially 3 runs or more. Funny.

Yanks can’t lose enough to descend into the depths of the Red Sox Nation.

Not enough games left for Yanks to lose to descend to level of Sox Nation!

What about Pineda? And Greene? Tanaka is a crap shoot with that injury. I’m keeping my fingers crossed CC’s got something left. That guy’s a real warrior – maybe – I’m hoping beyond hope. We have Ellsbury coming back, and Gardner. Tex will be better next year, stronger, no injuries – I swear. Oh, no – ARod! I hope that bum’s got something to prove. Drew at short? Oh, no, a short stop hitting 100 – what was Boras thinking with that guy? McCann – I read way back the Braves didn’t care if they lost him because his production was on the decline. H m m m m. Well. . .. I think the guy’s still got a 30 home run/90 RBI year left in him with the short right field at Yankee Stadium. Second base????? I may have to oil up the glove and get out there on second…. I’d like to see Delin closing and Robertson back at set up. Hey, I’m a Yankee fan – have been since The Mick prowled Centerfield, Yogi was behind the plate, Moose on first, Bobby Richardson on second, Kubek at short, Clete at 3rd (what a glove!!!), they just got a guy named Maris to replace the aging big guy – Bob Cerv – in right, and the weird batting stance of Hector Lopez in left. Luis Arroyo and that crazy screw ball of his, helping Whitey get all those wins. Dad and I used to drive on over to Yankee Stadium from Evergreen Avenue in the Bronx to see games. Dad would pull up in his ’53 Caddy and some guy would come out and take his car and park it. Then, when we’d come out, sometime in the 7th inning, sometime the 8th, all depended on how the game was going, the guy was there with the car. I never figured out how that guy knew when we’d be out – there were no cell phones back then. H m m m . . . the mysteries of life. But . . . .the Yankees. . . wait’ll next year – they’ll be back. Swear!

Yikes, Christy! That’s a lot of Yankee-ness today! You’re right about Pineda and Greene, of course, and Ellsbury has been terrific. Can’t get excited about the others on your list. I doubt Tex has much left. Ditto CC. Drew is not the answer at short….

Hey!!! We got a Win! That’s 2 in a row!!! When is the last time THAT happened? Nice to see Jeter hit a home run, but sad that Greene couldn’t get the win – he pitched an amazing game. Is pitch count was so high after just a couple of innings but then he locked it down and did the job. I know they are collecting all the balls that are Jeter hits now because they don’t know which will be the last one – I wonder if they were able to get the HR. Anyway, still looking for a sweep. GO YANKEES!!!
