Yankees-Mets Go Another Round

June 21, 2012

As I thought about the upcoming Subway Series, following right on the heels of Clemens’ acquittal, I couldn’t help conjure up this.

There were a few things that struck me, having not seen the footage in a long time:

  • How violently Clemens threw that piece of the bat. (‘Roid rage, anyone?)
  • How angry he got when confronted. (“You talking to me?”)
  • How pathetic it was to have both benches empty during a World Series game. (But good for ratings.)
  • How much Yankees-Mets used to matter. (The rivalry just doesn’t have the same edge. At least not for me.)

I hope our pitching gets back on track and that our hitters won’t be thrown by the unfriendly dimensions of Citi Field.

If the Yankees stay good and the Mets get good, the rivalry will matter again…

That was a mess, Jane. Just happy with the outcome of World Series 2000. I don’t know why but I’m very nervous about this series. I feel like Andy will handle things tonight, weather permitting, but I’m not sure what Saturday night and Sunday night will bring. Sunday should be the most intense of the 3. I’ll be with friends who are Mets fans on Saturday for a cook out but that party should be over before the game begins. GO YANKEES!!!

If the Mets stay good, it’ll get more intense, Sean. I have no doubt the Yankees will stay good.

That game was truly bizarre, Diane, but as you say the series had a happy ending. I agree that Sunday will be tough with Dickey pitching for them, but so often the outcomes we expect don’t materialize. I hope your BBQ on Saturday will finish up before game time so you don’t have to listen to your friends cheering for the other side!

Sorry for the intrusion. I’ll keep it brief this time.
That was a nerve-wracking WS; seemed as important Not To Lose as it was to win. Just didn’t want to imagine the grief there’d have been if the Yanks hadn’t beaten back the Mets, after all that history of dominance over Brooklyn and the Giants. And Clemens was psycho. But they prevailed, convincingly.

Agree with Diane; this weekend is another (smaller) nerve-wracker. Dickey has been lights-out all season, and recall how much Tim Wakefield tortured ’em for YEARS. That second game starter, Young, is also dangerous, with a “live arm.” But at least that fool reliever Francisco offered some bulletin board material…

Hi Jane & Fellow Baseball Fans…

I’ll be heading out to the game shortly. I’m going tonight and tomorrow night with my lucky charm…the Met fan cousin. The Yankees even win when they are playing his beloved Metsies… :o). He was with me this past weekend in D.C. for the two games against the Nationals. He always roots against the Yankees even when they played the Nationals (who the Mets are fighting for first place). Fortunately …whichever team he is rooting for usually loses to the Yankees …YAY !!! We had a great time in D.C. doing some touring too and the weather was spectacular with low humidity which apparently is a rarity for D.C. in June. Our seats were in the shaded area of the Nats Park which was also lucky. While there I was able to meet up with Ruth who is such a sweet lady. We did take a pic but my cat chewed the wire that connects the camera to the computer so I haven’t been able to upload it as of yet but when I do I’ll pass it along to Jane.

As for the edginess of the rivalry…I think you feel it more when you are living in NYC. I do agree I don’t think it’s as strong but it’s still pretty intense for the most part. I usually go to 4 out of the 6 games every season…two at each ballpark… it gets pretty loud during the games.

As for tonight’s game…thankfully the weather is looking better at the moment. I hope there isn’t a problem getting the game in tonight. Here’s to another win ..hopefully on the way to another sweep …on the way to another winning streak. GOOOOOOOOO ANDY !!! GOOOOOOOO YANKEES !!!

    Go Yankees 2012 !!!

That guy Francisco is such a tool, Dave. Now he’s saying he called the Yankees chickens because they complain about calls. I hope he comes into the game and the Yankees complain about every pitch.

Peggy, you’re a veteran of these games so you’re probably taking cover while this rain delay goes on. Supposedly the first pitch will be any minute. Stay dry, have fun and bring us a win with your Met fan cousin!
