Talk About A Kick

June 16, 2012

the 212.com

I missed the game live because I had a screening. (See my Mainly Jane blog post.) But I kept tabs on the score in the theater and then watched the action when I got home. All the action. Yikes, that was a lot of baseball and I was tired just thinking about how the Yanks will feel tomorrow.

But aside from Jeter’s error, Cory Wade serving one up and Soriano making things interesting in the 14th, this was a huuuuge team effort. Pettitte gave us another quality start in a growing list of quality starts by the entire staff and even Sweaty Freddy put in an appearance.

Mostly, I just have to say how much I loved Tex’s game-winner. It wasn’t a homer – yes, the Yankees won a game without one! – but did he ever drill that ball. No warning track fly or cheapie bloop single. That ball was shot out of a cannon, and it was great to see.

I hope I didn’t jink Swisher in last night’s post when I wrote, “And nobody got hurt.” Today somebody got hurt and I’m crossing all fingers and toes that the bruise will heal fast because Swish has been a big part of this team (and because I don’t want Ibanez used in the outfield any more than necessary).

Nice day for Harper, the Nationals’ rookie sensation, wasn’t it?

Perhaps he was pressing.

Anyhow, we won another series. Yay. Now let’s finish the job tomorrow.

    One word to describe today:

    Heartstopping.

I’tt take the win, but do we have to do it in such a way that I won’t have a nervous system left with a couple more of these? Well, at least we’re still on a roll. Keep it going…

We got lucky today. They tried to give us runs with poor play in the field and then the ump joined in by calling the guy out at the plate when he was safe. I left in some extra inning and came home scared to see we lost via a walk off and it was still going so I got to watch the end. Winning the first two of a series is so fun. Being in first is so fun. Great pitching is the most fun.

What – a – game!!! I cried… I laughed… but in the end, all was right in the world! The MEN beat the boys! I really thought we’d bought the farm when Joe opted for Deady Freddie in the 13th… But contrary to the 70’s song— Freddie was NOT dead!!! And my most FAVORITEST part of the entire game, Jane?— You said it— The ‘Bryce is Wrong’ going oh-for-Saturday, doing is “human propeller” impersonation FIVE times!!! And the first three of those came compliments of Andy— shoulda seen it— Andy made him look ABSOLUTELY silly!) Onwards and upwards!!!

Extra innings games at the opposing park always give me a bad case of nerves, Sean, but I cheated this time since I already knew we won.

Great pitching is absolutely fun, Barbara. If the Yanks pitchers can each take their turn and pitch the way they’ve been pitching, we’re in very good shape. Oddly, the one I worry about is CC.

I saw the strikeouts, Guido, and I kept thinking, This is a win for old people. Haha. I seriously loved that a creaky 40-year-old made the cocky 19-year-old look like a little leaguer.
