Off-Day Fodder

April 26, 2012

I was on Twitter this morning when a Tweet from People.com with a link caught my eye: “Alex Rodriquez opens up about Cameron Diaz.”

Okay, I was hooked. I clicked on the link and here’s what I got.

Alex Rodriguez on Ex Cameron Diaz: She’s ‘One of the Greatest Human Beings I’ve Ever Met’

They have have broken up – but clearly Alex Rodriguez harbors no hard feelings toward Cameron Diaz.

“I don’t like talking about my relationships,” the New York Yankee tells The Insider in a new interview, “but I will tell you about C.D. – she’s probably one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever met, and just an amazing light.”

The two had an on-again, off-again relationship, though a source confirmed to PEOPLE the two had split for good in September 2011.

At the time, Rodriguez had equally kind words for Diaz, telling PEOPLE, “I have a lot of love for Cameron. We’ll always be friends.”

And the two have subsequently moved on: Diaz has been linked with Diddy, while Rodriguez has been spotted smooching former wrestling diva Torrie Wilson.

As for people gossiping about his personal life – or his athletic abilities, for that matter – Rodriguez tells The Insider, he’s not fazed.

“Ah, you know, it’s New York,” he says, “people are always going to have an opinion [with] pretty much anything you do, both on and off the field.”

First of all, I wouldn’t exactly call A-Rod’s quotes “opening up.” It was more like he gave the interviewer a couple of soundbites. But whatever. I think it’s hilarious that he refers to her by her initials. I wonder if she calls him A.R.

Mostly, I just want her to star in “An Ex to Grind,” the novel of mine that’s in development for a feature at Fox with her attached to play my heroine, Melanie Banks. I found out recently that the producers have moved on from the script by Jeremy Garelick (“The Break-Up,” “The Hangover”) and are looking to hire a new screenwriter. That’s Hollywood.

In other show biz news, CC is on Jimmy Fallon’s show tonight. If anybody watches it, tell me how he was.

Congrats to YankeeCase and Diane and any other NY Rangers fans reading this. I was out for dinner and kept checking the score of the game and was so happy that the good guys won and will now move on to the next round. Nothing more exciting than playoff sports.

Woohoo! I made it onto a blog post!! !^_^! All I need now is another video (except this time I promise I won’t sound like a babbling fool…!).

Yay for our NY Rangers! They’ve come up big all year in pressure situations, and they’ve done it again, coming back from being down 3-2 in the series! Hopefully I’ll make it to MSG to catch Game 2 on Monday!

You know I’ve never been one to be bothered by A-Rod’s off the field lifestyle or whatever, but I definitely can understand why some people don’t like it, and because of it don’t like him either. He’s a Hollywood star kind of person, which I guess means he lives flashy, is always is in the spotlight, dates big time stars, and doesn’t offer much in terms of interviews. So it seemed almost like a perfect match when I found out those two were dating two years ago (or whenever that was). The big time baseball players and the Hollywood starlet. And they both have what seems like bland personalities, or so they’d have us believe. Can you imagine the dark secrets they have on each other?! They’ll never really talk about the other one or their past relationship, lol! Cameron Diaz must have some pretty good dirt on A-Rod though, for him to say she’s “one of the greatest human beings” he’s ever met! Hahaha, good stuff Jane!

A little sidebar that’s been bugging me ever since we heard about the new changes coming to MLB, starting with the extra Wild Card and then the Houston Astros moving to the AL. I can’t get my head wrapped around the fact that we are going to have interleague play in baseball every day next season! I was curious to see what their plan was because if MLB is looking to split let’s say the Yankees schedule by going 84 AL games and 78 NL games, then why even bother with leagues anymore? This was a breakdown I had heard initially. Going that way, why bother with the DH in only one league? Why bother with any rules?? Let’s round the bases clockwise instead!! The players should wear rally caps at all times on the field! Pitchers throw with their feet! I could go on about tradition, and this and that, but I’ve already taken up way too much space here. This is a good article (Beware! Lots of math!) I found that was written back in November that hopefully means the MLB execs in their ivory towers understand not to mess with the game too much…

Yes! Happy for the Rangers — and didn’t I say yesterday that it was a good sign that there’s a player on the team named Girardi? Well, he scored the winning goal. How cool is that?

I’m tired of all the hype A-Rod gets about dating. I really want to focus (and more importantly, I want him to focus) on his hitting. Homestand starts tonight against The Tigers. They have basically the same record as us so we’ll see what happens. Nova starts tonight so that sounds good. Go Yankees!!!

Oh ARod! I have to say I get a laugh every time they interview him after he’s done something good (like passing Griffey on the all time HR list). I always get the feeling he wants to just brag and say how great he is, but he reigns himself in and says something about how it’s more important that they won. CC, Tex, and Jeter seem to do that without thinking but ol’ Alex has to strain to do it.

YankeeCase – I agree about the new rules. What are they thinking? Oh, right $$$$$$$$$$.

Yank33ss and Sean K – we’re a pretty forgiving bunch. Everyone has said something they regret at some point. Just be respectful and you’ll do fine!

You’re going to MSG on Monday, YankeeCase? Now that should be fun. You do go where the action is. Do you have a secret source for tickets? LOL. I hope this is a sign of things to come for the Rangers and they’ll go all the way. I don’t mind that A-Rod goes out with stars; that sort of thing goes all the way back to Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio. And let’s face it: Jeter doesn’t exactly date nobodys. It’s the way A-Rod talks about things that makes me laugh (see Melissa’s comment). He just isn’t as smooth as Jeter when it comes to talking to the media and never will be, and the contrast is interesting. I like that we have a bunch of different characters on the Yankees and always have. It’s fine to have the upstanding types like CC and Tex but it’s also fun to have the oddballs like A-Rod. As for the MLB stuff, I agree with every word you wrote and I could (and have) done entire blog posts on the subject. If it were up to me, we’d have one league, no DH and all the rest. Purist is right.

I didn’t know it was Girardi that scored the winning goal, Diane! Very cool. Do they have a player named Jeter? Haha. Best of luck to them going forward. I do think A-Rod focuses on his hitting. He’s said to be almost obsessive about working out and taking time in the cage with and without K-Long. Really looking forward to this series against the Tigers. We need Sweaty Freddy, in particular, to do well on Saturday.

A-Rod does seem to strain to “reign himself in,” Melissa, or maybe it’s straining to “say the right thing.” He has put his foot in his mouth so often that he must want to be very careful every time he’s quoted (he’ll never live down that stuff about Jeter in SI).

As long as it doesn’t have any negative impacts on the team, I really could not possibly care less who A-Rod or Jeter or anyone else is dating. Just don’t do anything that’ll get you suspended or say something that will tear apart the clubhouse and cause the Yankees to spiral into a losing streak.

I’m glad A-Rod and Ms. Diaz still are on good terms.

Exactly, Sean K. As long as they stay out of trouble, it’s okay with me!

Yes, Melissa, it’s all about that $$$! Who cares about long standing traditions? Interleague definitely does go against tradition, but it’s something different and still allows the two leagues to maintain their identities. AND it’s kept to a minimum, not year round. Hopefully the number of interleague games per team will again be kept as low as possible.

Jane, I hope to go see a playoff game. I still haven’t checked on the prices. No, I don’t have a special source for tickets, lol! But I do make the sacrifice of eating beans out of a can for two weeks to make it to a big game, hehehe! :P Whatever it takes! Including being conveniently sick from work… Cough, cough! ;)

Well, I’m really only a fan by marriage, Juan, but I do root for them. Congrats to you on their big win and good luck in the next round.
