The CC Watch Continues….

October 30, 2011

According to ESPN, the offer’s been made. Will the big man take it and decide not to opt out after all? It would be nice – refreshing even – but my guess is he’ll opt out simply because he can. The clause was put in his contract to allow for the possibility that he could not only make more money but bail on New York if he didn’t like it.

It seems clear that he does like New York and his wife has expressed how much she and the kids enjoy life in New Jersey, but it’s rare when professional athletes don’t go for the bucks when they have the opportunity.

That said, I would practically guarantee that CC will remain a Yankee. His agents will do some haggling but in the end everybody will come up with a deal they can live with.

Still, I’d feel more comfortable if this situation gets wrapped up sooner rather than later so Cashman can start addressing the team’s other needs. I don’t want a repeat of last year when all his eggs were tied up in Cliff Lee.

(If something happens while I’m asleep here on the west coast, feel free to yell very loudly and wake me up with the news.)

Being that it’s Halloween, I guess we need some more tension, chills, and (hopefully) thrills.
It would be great if we wake up on All Saints Day tomorrow, and learn that CC is still wearing pinstripes. And Cashman too, I guess. Nice to have consistency.

Following your lead, I went to ESPN to see what they said. It’s all on the table, and who knows. But I’d expected to see something about Roy Oswalt. Nope? Oh well…

The three biggest-name free agent starters they mentioned were C.J. Wilson (I dunno…not after THAT postseason…), Mark Buerhle (probably misspelled — but maybe?) and some 25-year-old Japanese wunderkind with a half-unJapanese name…Yu Darvish?

Is he related to Whirling? Is his middle name Hu? (in that case, if he signs with the Yanks, he could resurrect those Yoo Hoo chocolate beverage ads with Yogi!!)…hey, have some fun…it’s Halloween…

I don’t think the Yankees have more than a passing interest in Darvish, Dave. Not after the Kei Igawa fiasco. Wilson didn’t have a good postseason for sure, but he’s still a possibility and Buehrle would be OK for not a lot of money/years. We have to get somebody! Colon and Garcia were great but I’d rather have a pitcher who’s not a reclamation project this time around.

Happy Halloween, Jane! Let’s hope that CC treats us instead of tricking us!

Happy Halloween to you, Kathleen. Good thought about CC. I’d rather have him treat us than trick us for sure!

Here’s the treat from CC that we were all waiting for! :D

CC Sabathia will remain in New York, the Yankees left-hander announced Monday evening on his Twitter account.

Sabathia and the Yankees have agreed to a one-year, $25 million contract extension that includes a $5 million buyout, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney. His current contract now runs through 2016 with $122 million guaranteed. There also is a $25 million option for 2017.

“Yankee fans, I’ll be here fighting for number 28 next year,” Sabathia posted on his personal Twitter feed, referring to the club’s quest for its 28th World Series title.

Yes, everybody, CC is ours! A little while ago I sent him a tweet thanking him for staying a Yankee. I guess he and Amber really do like it in New York, plus the extra money didn’t hurt. So we can all cross this one off our To Do List!
