I Guess I Didn't Miss Much

June 17, 2011

I couldn’t watch or listen to today’s game, but after reading about it I think I’m glad. I hate when we don’t score. I hate it even more when our starting pitcher doesn’t give up many runs and we don’t score. I especially hate it when we don’t score against a pitcher who throws junk.

It sounds like it wasn’t a very good game for Granderson, but he’s been such a superstar for us this season I can hardly fault him. I’ll just chalk this one up to the strange environment in which the Yankees (except for Girardi and Rothschild) found themselves.

it was a fairly unremarkable game from the Yankee perspective. Garcia was throwing beach balls for the first couple of innings, then settled down nicely. No run support made this too much to overcome. Though it didn’t cost any runs, it was dismaying to see Martin go Air Cervelli to center. One bad throw amongst the darts he usually throws is forgivable, though. The Yanks had their chances with RISP, but fizzled.

Ugh, NYL. I didn’t know Martin pulled a Cervelli. Now I’m really glad I missed the game. From what my husband told me, the Cubs pitcher took forever to throw the ball, and his slow delivery only added to the misery. Why the Yankees can’t hit guys like him – wasn’t he 0-5 before we came to town??? – mystifies me.

I heard the intro of the game on the radio and Sterling made mention of how the Cubs’ starter, Doug Davis, has a slight hesitation once he gets into his windup. I immediately thought, “Oh, wow! Here we go… This should be good game for our hitters…” (sarcastically of course. because i like being a smart ass to myself in my own mind…). And then of course this guy, who was 0-5 with an ERA of close to six, pitches a gem.

    SIGH………

We’ll get ’em tomorrow. You’ll see, Jane!

I heard Sterling say that too before I had to turn off the game, YankeeCase. He said he was like Nomo and the other Japanese pitchers with that hesitation in his delivery, but mostly he was just sloooow. And as I said in my comment above yours, he was 0-5. And yet he’s exactly the kind of pitcher the Yankees have trouble with. Never fails. We’d better get ’em today.

    I second that, Audrey.

Sounds like we picked a good one to miss, John. I’ll be missing Sunday night’s game too but I hope the rest of you will cheer for me.

I was still on a high from Thursday’s game, so I took yesterday’s loss in stride. I was at the game Thursday and it was such an exciting win. The fans were amazing that day. Now we have to win the series in Chicago. GO YANKEES!

Very exciting that you were at that great game, Freya. You must have had a blast.
