As we said in last night’s post, it’s been awhile since the Yankees celebrated a walkoff victory. And it showed. A.J.’s command wasn’t so hot. He only clipped Tex’s ear, which tells me he needs to work with Larry Rothschild on his pie move.

It was another weird, bipolar game with the Yankees looking like schlemiels early on, except for Martin’s homer. CC wasn’t hit hard but he was hit, and Cano’s latest error was painful.
But our ace kept Bautista under control and kept his teammates in the ballgame. I kept wondering if he’d throw a complete game loss.
But no! The Yankees actually rallied!
Jorge smacked the ball and then ran (I use the term loosely) to second. I was petrified he’d get thrown out trying to stretch it, but the hit was very stretchable and he was safe. Clap clap clap for him that he was able to help the team at last.
Granderson is just incredible, magical, awesome. Is there a fan anywhere who’s still bemoaning the departure of Austin Jackson? I didn’t think so.
And good for Tex for winning the game for us. Maybe he thinks it’s June, so his May doldrums are over.
I’ve discovered that I really enjoy beating the Blue Jays. I never really worked up much hostility toward them, but they’ve played us tough in recent years so now it feels very satisfying to come from behind and break their collective heart.
P.S. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I can’t believe Soriano is off to see the dreaded Dr. Andrews. That news today made me curl up in the fetal position.
PIE!!!
The game didn’t look like it’d have a happy ending… It looked like another tough luck loss for CC. He hasn’t really gotten much run support, except for that one win in Baltimore. And then I had to hear about how they were 1-18 in games where they were trailing entering the eighth. And how no Yankee pitcher had pitched a complete game in over two years. And how good the Toronto bullpen was. And, ehh…..
But then the Yankees got to the bullpen like they always have in the past. Making it a one run game in the eighth was key. It gave everyone hope they could steal this game from Ricky Romero.
Posada’s hit was big! And Grandy was big! And CC was big in keeping the game close! And Cano was big! And Martin was big! And Tex was walk off big!
Hopefully this game gives Posada, and the Yankees’ offense overall, some confidence to go on a hot streak with the bats!

No, it didn’t look like it was destined for a happy ending, YankeeCase. It was heading down the path of too many other games. But all your exclamation points are warranted because the Yanks managed to string those hits together and create a come-from-behind win. It would be huge if Posada could gain confidence from tonight’s big at bat. We’ll see. Jeter didn’t do much in the DH role either.
Jane guess what… I went to this game! It was unbelievable! Bi-polar is putting it mildly, maybe full out multiple personality disorder. I was thinking in the 7th the definition for insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Getting on base, almost every inning and grounding into a double play. My forehead still hurts from slapping it, but my hands hurt even more from clapping! They suddenly realized they were playing baseball. Granderson was a monster today, post-4th inning CC was a monster too, 16 batters in a row? Srsly?? I think when CC got Bautista out with bases loaded it was one of the biggest moments in the game. I was so disgusted I wanted to go to the museum, but the person I was with didn’t want to, hoping for the best, so I wanted to try to be positive too. This funny guy behind us left in the 8th and we couldn’t believe it and it was right after they cut the lead to 1. Just then Hip Hip Jorge comes up to bat and BAM! A single… wait, a double?? I couldn’t believe he was on second. Maybe he watched the Preakness? Jeter grounds out, (he looked pissed throughout the game actually, I don’t blame him) but then Granderson does it one more time. And Teix seals the deal. This is the craziest game I’ve been to since Damon and Teix’s back to back game ending home runs. And in this game I was happy they did it without a home run, though at that point anything would have been fine. :D I hear it’s not so loud in this new stadium anymore, but it sure was loud tonight! woohoo :D I didn’t hear about Soriano, that’d be more of a downer if he pitched well in more than 2 games. :|
Last season the Granderson-AJax trade seemed well to the Tigers favor. This season, Grandy is playing like a monster and AJax is leading the league in strike outs. Granderson is playing like he’s capable of, though, and I’m hoping Jackson can work things out and be productive again.

i love pie.
i gave up the tv but i didn’t give up on the game and heard the walk off on the radio.
i have been trying to protect my heart and pull back (not divorce but i did think of separation but i can’t do it) from the yankees but that was fun! the lack of offense has been hard to take. i watched a lot of the comeback yankee met game through a glass wall in the back of an airport restaurant and we looked horrible. when the plane landed i heard happy news. so maybe we can get back to our ways of waiting until the bullpen comes in and getting wins late.
congrats on the soap opera. which was more exciting the walk off or the credits?
I watched up until the fourth inning, then my daughters had some friends come over and I gave them the family room since I figured radio would work just as well for this game and I didn’t want to go down to the chilly basement. I was happy about the eighth but still not convinced we would win this game and when Girardi sent Posada out in the ninth, just after John and Suzyn gave his awful stats against Francisco, I was beside myself. Oh, me of little faith! When Jorge hit that double I moved to the family room, no longer worried about embarrasing my daughters in front of their friends (My girls are Yankee fans, too, though not as rabid as their mom – yet). Damn that was sweet to watch! Tex is back on my list, which my daughter said was the main reason he was celebrating last night, hehehe.
I don’t think my heart could take too many games like that in a row (it went into serious palpitations when Bautista was up with the bases loaded) but they sure are fun now and then. I’m looking forward to today’s game (I love afternoon games) but this time I would like a blowout by our boys. May as well mix things up and keep it interesting.
Pretty sure the White Sox are still kickin’ themselves for missing on Granderson… I mean, he is a southside product (from Blue Island I believe)… right in their backyard!
What a great game to be at, seindsfeld! Lucky you. I can’t believe the guy behind you left and missed all the fun. I know what you mean about Soriano, but maybe one of the reasons he’s been ineffective is the sore arm. All I know is the Yankees paid $$$ for him and without him we’ll need Joba and D-Rob to really step up. They’ve done a great job filling in, but I wish we had Kerry Wood from the good old days.
I’m sure Ajax will work out his strikeout problems, Mike. He’s still a good player and I never wanted the Yankees to trade him. But Granderson has just been crazy good this year. Wow.
Barbara, I figured your absence meant you had, indeed, been trying to embrace the Red Sox! I know this patch of losses has been hard but maybe the Yanks are emerging. A walkoff is always good for the spirit, so here’s to better things to come. Which was more exciting for me? Maybe the soap opera, since it was the first time.
I think it’s hilarious that you were worried about embarrassing your daughters and their friends, Audrey. Let them see you in all your she-fandom! Our boys are giving us all palpitations these days, but at least this game had a happy ending. I’d love a blowout today (I love blowouts any day, as you know). But unlike you, day games are a pain for me. They start at 10 am and kill the work day.
I bet the White Sox would have loved to have the 2011 model of Granderson, Jeff. I remember that he’s a local boy. Would have been sweet, but he’s OURS!
Repost …this really belongs on here .. not yesterday’s post .. :o). I figure any post about a Yankee walk- off win deserves to be posted twice…haha…
YAYYYYYYYYYYYY Jane …
We just wrote about walk offs earlier today ….it was GREAT seeing one tonight (even if I did have an
ulcer attack leading up to it ..lol). AJ needs to practice his pie throwing ….he hardly got Tex. I guess
it’s been so long he’s rusty. Love how CC hung in there for the whole game…he didn’t let that 4th inning get to him and pitched lights out after that. I LOVE CC !!!! I was so happy to see Jorgie get that big hit ..he looked so happy when they won. I felt so happy for him. Maybe this is something he needed to get him on track …I sure hope so. What a game … I LOVE MY YANKS !!!!
I’ll sleep good tonight … hope everyone else does too …. :o)
Go Yankees 2011 !!!!
P.S. I DID sleep well too … with visions of pinstriped men dancing in my head ..:o)
Didn’t get to tune in till 6th inning. What a shock in the eigth and ninth. Tex and Posada actually did something.
Just got a call from my son and daughter. They are at todays game. Fantastic weather. They told me they saw the new fields at the old Stadium footprint and the soccor field and track on top of the parking garage.
My health issues shut me out of this game but I am glad I raised my kids right!
Why not re-post, Peggy. Your thoughts about last night’s game were right on. And didn’t we all sleep better.
Sorry you’re unable to get to the game today, John, but your kids are carrying on the family tradition. Let’s hope they bring us luck and the Yankees take the series.
All right now. All righty then!
Yesterday was a day we had dreaded for awhile…pick up Son #2 from college. It was a steamy hot day in Bal’mer, to boot. This is the Yankee Fan son who had the Big Hissy last week…you may recall (and want to forget) that ugly story. 2 much 2-mult, as u said then…
The load-out on a hot humid day with 1,000 other kids doing the same was bad enuf; it always is. But our REAL angst was, “what happens when he gets home and sees the only house he’s ever known in its current torn-apart condition?” Ladies, when you get your loong-awaited X-treme Home Makeover, there’s scarce consideration of that. Deal with it, kid. So, we tried to warn him & prepare for the worst.
But…amazingly…like a late-inning Yankee comeback…when he got home, no fuss or muss or tantrums. For once, our 22-year-old acted his age, PTL (unlike his dad, who never has). At last, after The Great Unpacking, here’s your new/old room, kid… and piling everything in every direction (hey, who would ever notice?), Son #2 got to open his loong-awaited birthday gift — specially ordered. He unwrapped it with great care, held his breath…and there it was…a gorgeous Robinson Cano road jersey…with unexpected added delights…the left sleeve had the “Yankee Stadium Inaugural Season” patch, and the right sleeve had the “2009 World Series” patch. It’s AWESOME. As he & I reveled in the sight of it, I felt that this just HAD to be a good omen for the ballgame last night. Me Dear Wife remarked that I seemed to be more excited about my son’s latest jersey than our X-treme Home Makeover. Exactly so…
Sounds like quite a day, Dave! I’m very glad son #2 is home from college, didn’t have a hissy over the makeover and loved his present. Who wouldn’t love a Cano road jersey, patches and all? Very thoughtful gift. I think you should buy all of us one of those. :)
I second Jane’s motion that we all be given Robbie Cano road Jersey’s with patches. All in favor, say aye!
Sorry afternoon games are a pain for you, Jane. Fortunately, they don’t occur on weekdays too often. I have a number of kitchen projects to work on today so nothing makes me happier than puttering around and listening to the Yankees kick some (insert opposing team name) butt.
I have to agree with Peggy – I LOVE MY YANKEES TOO!! They were so darn cute jumping around celebrating their walk-off. They deserved all the joy they plainly felt.
Didn’t I have a good idea about Dave buying us all jerseys, Audrey? I hope he’s reading this and gets the message. Yes, this game is a pain for me, as I’m trying to work and watch at the same time, but they’re off to a nice start so far. And yes, they did look cute jumping around last night – such little boys at heart.
They finally had a game to go their way. Good for them. By the way, what is so dreaded about Dr. Andrews?
I am getting my wish!
There was a very unusual yellow thing in the sky here yesterday – oh, that’s right, I think they call it the sun. We hadn’t seen it in so long, that I stayed outside as long as it was there. Finally came in. My youngest son was watching something on TV, so I listened to the 7th and 8th on the radio. Hmm, this could get interesting. Son went to take a shower, I put on the bottom of the ninth. Hip, Hip Jor-hay indeed! And Curtis!!!! And then Tex. Loved when they showed a replay of him watching from first base to see if Curtis scored.
Another come from behind win! It’s about time they started having them. Hope this gives the team a boost and some confidence.
I would just like to say that we won right after I got home. My luck must be changing with this team :D
Jorge’s AB was key during the 9th. I was so happy to see Jorge happy :D
Being that I got home during the 7th inning, I’d say it was a good game LOL.
Glad the boys were able to pick CC up, he was a true ace last night. Our lovable horse! LOL
Dr. Andrews, Peter, is the doctor whom all the players consult when there’s a question about needing surgery. He’s sort of the final authority. In other words, if Soriano needs surgery, he’s done, obviously.
You are, Audrey. Loving this game unless something catastrophic happens.
Happy for you about the sunshine, Melissa. That game was pretty sweet, wasn’t it?
AYE!! =)
Ooops. Didn’t see your comment in there, Antonella. I was happy to see Jorge happy too, although you can’t always tell with him. He was yapping it up in the dugout after the walkoff and I couldn’t read lips but he looked fired up. And yes, excellent work picking up CC!
Aye back at you, DJ.
Audrey wrote: “I second Jane’s motion that we all be given Robbie Cano road Jersey’s with patches. All in favor, say aye!”
So that was my emphatic aye!
Nice win again today boys. Thanks!! I really think they need their day off tomorrow. Enjoy it and rest up.
Go Yankees!
ok my absence had nothing to do with the red sox. i’m trying to like them but i can barely get to not hating them. i just love the yankees too much to like the red sox and to be able to handle the yankees not doing well. today i followed the game on gamecast while at work and warned my co workers they would hear yelling. there was clapping and happiness and one of the kids thought it was so cool. i had to get her to do her homework and we tried to ignore the computer. i also tried to explain to co workers how happy i was that we had pie and they were quite confused but got my glee.
I think we all want Dave to show us some love and buy us those jerseys, DJ! Looking forward to the boys heading west to my side of the country.
Glad to hear you haven’t “gone over to the other side,” Barbara. I didn’t think you would. I love that the kids enjoyed your enthusiasm about today’s game. I’m sure your co-workers were confused about the pie, but they can always jump on our bandwagon and become Yankee lovers too.
