So Much For My Being Good Luck

May 7, 2011

I really wanted to win this one tonight. I hated that Colon didn’t have it and allowed the Rangers to jump out to an early lead. I figured we were cooked, but tying it at 5-5 was fun for about a minute. Ultimately, the Yankees stalled, sputtered and conked out.

Bright spots?

I’ll single out Jeter for driving the ball. We’ve all been waiting for that to happen.

I’ll tip my cap to Swisher, who did it with his glove and his bat despite having a head cold.

I’ll give a shout out to Joba, who pitched a crisp, clean inning.

I’ll bow down to Cano for that bases-clearing triple.

But otherwise? Eh. Just eh.

Do me a favor, Yankees, and stop letting Michael Young, in particular, keep beating you. Thanks.

Oh, and congrats to Justin Verlander for his second no-no. He just made me covet him for the Yanks even more than I’ve been doing forever.

Like Darren said in the last post, Jane, you just need a few rehab posts is all! We’ll just look at this as a 1 for 5 outing after being on the DL, lol.

Glad you’re back and posting. Cataloging Yankee games everyday is tough work, phew! I hand the assignment back to you! :D

Jeter’s double was great! The swing looks like it’s back, I think. He’s up to almost .260 after starting pretty bad. He’s been racking up those hits on the DJ3K watch. Everyone wants to talk about how he’s lost it, but I don’t think so. His last few years were some of his best, hitting-wise. He hit .334 in 2009, and almost won a batting title in 2006 with a .343 average. He started pretty decently last year until he got hit in the wrist. And then the last few weeks of the season he seemed to be hitting well again. The tales of his impending demise are exaggerated. Yeah he’s getting older, but he’s not going to all of a sudden “suck” and lose bat speed.

Glad to see our team come back to tie after a five run deficit. Wish they could have tacked on some more runs, but hey, can’t win ’em all…. (but we can damn sure try!!! like alec baldwin said, “being a yankee fan is like being a fan of winning. which we do relentlessly.”)

Hope you’re healthy and everything is going all right!

I hope the hospital stay wasn’t bacon-club related from 2009. Maybe you can sue your team? I would. And they’d deserve it. Then again, I’m a Mets fan.

Oh, well. From Colon Flow to Colon Blow. But we knew this would happen…and hey, it took WAY longer than anybody thought it would! So there’s some comfort in there, somewhere…

And it’s gratifying to see The Captain getting some good swings. Plus, after being down 0-5, it’s always nice to see Da Boyz make a comeback, even if it wasn’t a “compleat” one. Ah well…

Hey…it’s Mother’s Day…I’m trying to write this in a way to remind me of how MY mom would try to pick me up after my team(s) lost games back in the day…of course, she didn’t know beans about beisbol, like YOUR mom (and please, give Mrs. S. all my best today — from me, and from ALL her blogger fans)!

But let’s be thankful for small favors…nice day back east…you’re back…you feel well enuf to add pix to your ever-insightful comments…and Our Bomberz are still, somehow, someway, on top. Works for me!!

Hi Jane. Nice to see that you’re back. We have been holding down the fort for you while you were gone. Happy Mother’s Day and hope you’ve recovered well from the surgery. I wasn’t able to watch this game but I’ll just comment that while it’s sad to see Colon was just bad yesterday, he’s been so good for us so far that I can take a bad pitching outing now as long as it doesn’t become permenant. We need him now more than ever to be sharp since Hughes won’t be back for quite some time. Jane and fellow Yankee and baseball fans, have a Happy Mother’s Day and shower your mothers with love and gifts! I’ll be taking my mom to a Yankee game against the Red Sox next weekend as a belated gift.

happy mother’s day to all the moms who read the blog! I think I need to adopt Leo – what a nice gift.

David cone was announcing yesterday and he said that in the ballpark at Arlington, when the wind was blowing a certain way, it made it hard to control pitches sometimes. Maybe that was part of big bart’s problem? I’m sticking with it being a bad day and he’ll do fine next time around.

Good to see Jeter getting some solid hits. And the four runs were a two out rally, that was a positive.

A horseshoe is supposed to point up. If it’s pointing down, like the one in your picture, the good luck runs out.

Nice speech in support of the captain, YankeeCase! I agree that his demise has been exaggerated but it’s been painful to watch his swings this season (I’m speaking more of the tappers, nubbers, GIDPs than strikeouts) and I’m very glad to see him hitting the ball hard and out of the infield. I love that Alec Baldwin commercial too. Just cracks me up.

After almost suing the Yankees for divorce, Paul, I’ve learned my lesson. No more lawsuits.

Aw, that’s sweet that your mom would try to boost your spirits after you lost games as a kid, Dave. Doesn’t matter if she didn’t understand the game. My mom will be in NJ today surrounded by kids and grandkids and great-grandkids so I know she’ll enjoy it. Even better that the weather is nice back east.

Leo, that’s such a great gift for your mom!!! (And not a bad gig for you.) I hope she gets to see us beat the Red Sox. In the meantime, thanks for the good wishes.

I think we all need to adopt Leo, Melissa! Happy Mother’s Day to you. Hope you’ll be feted in a special way. Bart didn’t mention the wind in his post-game but maybe he didn’t want to make excuses. It sure didn’t bother Feliz. He was impressive.

Is that true about horseshoes, Uncle Mike? Uh-oh. Well, that explain the good luck running out then. I’ll have to find one that points up.

So happy to see you back and blogging Jane. I hope you are feeling well and good as new. I know I speak the truth when I say we all missed you. Thanks to all the bloggers who kept me in reading material during
    Jane’s absence.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms on the blog. I hope you enjoy the day with the greatest gift of all..you’re children. My gift to each and every Mom is a Yankee win (now I hope they can deliver that
    gift for me..haha).

Hey, Peggy. The crew here did a great job while I was in the hospital, didn’t they? Happy Mother’s Day to you. I hope you’re doing something fun as opposed to the Yankees, who are not having a good game thus far.

Thanks, Freya. Happy M’s Day to you. I like your prediction, but the early going in this game is nothing to celebrate.

    Jane,
You just sent shivers down my back with the Verlander comment.
Just imagining what the pinstripes could manage with a guy who can top 100 mph on the hill is terrifying to me.
Not worried about his intimidation factor, but the guy is a proven winner sitting in a steaming pile of…Detroit rubble.
If he had the offensive talent, fan involvement behind him that would encircle him in NYC…..It might be the key to him possibly getting a chance to see Cooperstown as something other than a spectator. Not even going to think about it. Blocking it out of my mind.
As for Colon, he has always been a roll of the dice. Sometimes you get magic, other times you get…mediocrity. There could be a balance between the two, but it rarely rears its normal head.

    Happy Mother’s Day to all!!!

Colon started out as a role of the dice, Renegade. Then he showed everybody he could still pitch and pitch well. So last night’s game was a jolt of reality maybe or just an off night for him. We’ll see.

Love all the pink on the field today, YankeeCase – the ONLY day I love it. I’m not a pink kind of gal.
