OK, you don’t have to actually watch the video. Just let the song play while you read this post.
Tomorrow it begins.
Tomorrow our long wait for baseball is over.
Tomorrow we get to see our Yankees in the Bronx.
Tomorrow we get to watch Mussina throw out the first pitch. (I wish Andy were throwing it, but whatever.)
Tomorrow we get to see how well our guys play in snow. (Maybe.)
Tomorrow we get to hear the ESPN guys talk about the following:
- Our payroll.
- The fact that we didn’t sign Cliff Lee.
- The Red Sox being the favorites to win it all.
- The Barry Bonds trial and the court appearances of two former Yankees.
I’ll be hitting the mute button for that last part or maybe there should be a drinking game every time they mention Cliff Lee?
Anyhow, to those who’ll be at the game… bundle up and enjoy. To those who’ll be watching on TV with me…I’ll wave to you. To those who’ll be listening on the radio…let me know what John Sterling comes up with for a Russell Martin home run call.
I love how on Opening Day that you get the comfort of not knowing. You can be a Royals fan and still think they can win it all. The year is full of questions. I’m so excited for the baseball season and can’t wait what you have to say when the Rockies sweep the Yankees at the Stadium. I’m going ot enjoy watching them tomarrow beat the Tigers.
I AM EXCITED! I will be glued to the YES Network tomorrow.
BASEBALL!!!
REAL BASEBALL!!!
real snowy baseball?! ?O_o?
Well they say it should be some drizzle, and some snow on Friday. So we’ll see… I’ll be wearing my hoody along with my Yogi Berra jersey, so I’m ready to tough out either one at the Stadium tomorrow! (Which reminds me, I need to buy a new Rivera jersey already…)
LET’S GO YANKEES!!!
http://yankeecase.mlblogs.com/
You’re so right, Peter. Opening Day is a clean slate for every team (and fan). Do the Rockies even play the Yankees in inter-league this year?
I hope I get the YES Network, Freya. Sometimes we’re blacked out here in CA if the game is also on ESPN.
So you’ll be there tomorrow, YankeeCase? Then let me be your mother and say, “DRESS WARMLY.” A hoody might not be enough, so wear layers!
YES JANE THE ROCKIES PLAY NYY IN JULY. [I know cuz I wanted to make my trip to the stadium for that series.. I could see both of my teams in one series lol]
You forgot another thing they’ll talk about on ESPN: The fact that Jorge is now a DH & not a catcher.
I’m so excited! It’s like Christmas in March! EEK! See ya tomorrow, Jane [on twitter]!
The Rockies are your other favorite team, Antonella? Who knew? Oops. I should have added the Jorge/DH discussion to the ESPN list, as well as the Garcia/Colon issue; both are sure to come up. (More muting of the TV.) See you tomorrow on Twitter!!!
The ESPN guys would drone on about the same only marginally relevant things over and over? Say it isn’t so. Building a drinking game around that could be dangerous…or a valid coping mechanism for listening to ESPN broadcasters I suppose, he he. I know what you mean. When it’s our turn it will be last year’s losing season, footage of Kendrys breaking his ankle, a questionable offseason and failing to sign Carl Crawford.
But ignore the announcers. Enjoy the game!!! It should be a blast.
Just about the sweetest words in the English language: PLAY BALL!!!!!
Hard to believe that our forecast here, just 90 miles from the stadium, is 6 – 12 inches of snow. Yuck.
So here are some videos to get us in the mood:

“Are you ready?
Yes I’m ready!
Are you ready?
Yes I’m ready…
To fall in love…with you-oo” [KC & Teri Di, or Barbara Mason — n’importe qui…]
Hey, forget “you-oo” — it’s time for BEISBOL, and Ballantine!! — or a reasonable substitute brew thereof…!
I think a big “OH YES!” is in order, pun intended. It’s a BEAUTIFUL day — for ducks — and for roamin’ in the gloamin’ — but what do we care — Nick & I have two tickets to paradise — or the closest thing nearby — Nats Park and the Season Opener!!
It’s a brisk 39 degrees, soggy & foggy as I type this…but who cares…been waitin’ so long…finally, put football and basketball to bed…time for a REAL major-league sport…can I get an “AMEN,” brothers and sisters?!?
I’m waking Nick up within the hour…those 25-year-olds get enough beauty sleep…we’ll play it smart…for those of you who’ve never been to Nats Park, by all means take the Metro…it has a stop on the Green Line just a block from the ballpark…okay, the trip home may be Sardine City…but it sure beats driving!
All the while, I’ll be playing scoreboard beisbol — and thinking, as wet & cold as we are, it’s probably wetter and colder in NYC — but WHO CARES. I’ve even got She-Fan quoting oldies and posting music videos now — hahahaaaa, it’s working — and it’s a great day for beisbol!! Although, to be brutally honest, I can’t agree with Ernie Banks…let’s NOT play two today, and say we did…one will be just fine, son!!
I KNOW RIGHT I CAN’T WAIT EITHER THIS IS BETTER THAN CHRISTMAS AND TAX DAY COMBINED!!!!!!!
Once it’s accepted that 4-5 1/2 in the rotation is Ivannovabartolofreddycolongarcia, they might lock Mussina up somewhere and not let him leave til he signs a contract to play.

You’re already writing ESPN’s tales of your team, Kristen. LOL. You’re right on the money too. I can definitely hear them talking about that stuff. But I will enjoy the game today nonetheless!
Glad there’s a train you can take to the game, Dave. So much easier to take public transit. I’d like to see Nats park someday – haven’t been to the DC area in years. But I think I’ll go when it’s warm and sunny. No martyr me. Have fun!
I don’t think I’ve ever thought of putting tax day, Christmas and Opening Day in the same sentence, Jeff. You must really be excited.
Wishing Andy Pettitte would un-retire is one thing, Paul (and I do.) But Mussina? No thanks. Let him coach his son’s Little League.
My predictions—
AL Playoff Teams Yankees, A Sox Team, Athletics and Twins
NL Playoff Teams Braves, Phils, Giants, Cards
Let the games begin!!
Rockies play Yanks on Old Timers Day in July Sunday game!
“A Sox team,” John? So you’re letting us guess which one? LOL. I think you’re right about the A’s. This could be a big year for them.
John Sterling is on WFAN right now, 11;35. He says he has no planned HR call for Jones or Martin. He has not missed a game in his whole Yankee broadcast career.
Well, John, hopefully he’ll come up with some spur-of-the-moment inspiration if Martin in particular (I doubt we’ll see Jones) hits one out!
*Yaaaaaay* Only 30 more minutes! I can’t wait! The whole day at work I was thinking ‘It’s Opening Day, finally!’ Not that any of my colleagues know what that means – ha ha! Whatever, I’ll enjoy the game and hope it won’t rain. Let’s go Yankees!! :D
happy new year!!!
i am so excited!!!
i have on my mariano rivera fleece (he modeled it in the catalogue years ago) and my yankee earrings.
i can barely sit still or keep the smile on my face wherever i go.
i listened to my off collection of baseball songs and i’m ready.
i’m sending my caring to all fellow yankee fans and of course cc
Enjoy the game, Nadine. I’m all set to watch.
Happy New Year to you, Barbara! I send my caring back to you and to all the boys in pinstripes.
Ugh, I hate watching Opening Day on ESPN. We don’t get to see the player introductions, flag being brought out, etc… At least we got to see the National Anthem and flyover.
Jane,
Too many valid points above on the ESPN tunnelvision points of journalism. Seems that it is the media giants intention to plow and plop the obvious and pesstimistic above the true story….We are all beginning a 162 game journey that will end in tears,of either sadness or joy.
Gone is the Spring gambit of trying out combinations or inserting peg “A” into slot “C”. Now is the time where baseball really earns its money and respectability.
Now it is time to get dirty, keep it clean and above all…have fun out there.
I feel your pain, Amanda. Surprisingly, my extra innings package is letting me get YES for this game. I’ll be blacked on Saturday for the Fox game though.
Yup, Renegade. The journey has begun. You have fun too!
i have been totally manic today. i spent a lot of the game screaming, clapping and singing the grandyman can. i couldn’t seem to stop. fortunately nobody was home and was subjected to my singing. cc didn’t look like he could put away hitters with 2 strikes which made me nervous but he is cc so even without his best stuff he was ok. joba looked so good and the 8th and 9th might be quite sweet this year. i was worrying about scoring early before the game was called for rain and then it seemed like it would be our bullpen against theirs and i thought we’d be ok. the usual formula just get the starter out of the game. espn announcers weren’t as bad as i feared. what a great day. and now i can relax for the rest of the day and tomorrow and just bask in being in first place!
I have been like Barbara – alone in my house screaming and jumping for joy and singing. It’s just so great that the Yankees are back. My sister, who lives nearby, is also a big fan and we call each other when a Yankee hits a home run. My son who lives in Colorado is also a big fan and he too calls. So my phones were ringing with joy today. And by the way, I am also a Rockies fan. Troy Tulowitzki’s idol is Derek Jeter, and he plays shortstop and wears #2 and is also a good person. When I make my annual visit to Colorado we go to a Rockies game.
You’re so right about CC, Barbara. He was laboring, as he sometimes does, but somehow got the outs when he needed to. Well, Grandy helped with those amazing catches. Joba, Soriano and Mo sure made an exciting trio. So much to cheer about today with no angst!
Sounds like you were on the phone a lot during the game, Freya. It’s great to have other fans to cheer with, especially relatives. So you like the Rockies too? Didn’t realize we had such a contingent on this blog.
Melissa, for some reason your comment with all the links to the videos got caught in the spam filter so I only saw it just now. Thanks for those. By now you must be sitting at home and enjoying the game. I won’t say another word because I know you don’t want to know what happens!
